Ever notice how these shows only show the guys who are emotionally scarred from the killing? I've met veterans who killed enemy soldiers in hand-to-hand combat, and they were no more traumatized by it than we are by watching videos like this. Their attitudes can be summed up as, "Yeah, I did it. War is hell. How about that game last night on ESPN?"
Yeah, but the last thing we need to see is yet another program on war vets which does nothing to expand our knowledge of what happens during the ritual of killing. How many programs have you seen where the soldiers admit to chopping up bodies, spiking severed heads, hanging pieces on barbed wire, or taking photos or other "trophies" of their killing. Ever hear that discussed in any history classroom? I never did, and I took advanced history in high school which made famous wars in history a focal point of the course.

I wouldnt say they aren't scarred. Notice how fast they change the subject? If you kept pressing the issue they'd have to face the trauma. Lucky for most warriors most people are a fear/respect for them and wont press them beyond what they are comfortable talking about.

Although I enjoy reading the comments, whether they be intelligently backed or spoken out of ignorance. This is only one observation by one camera crew. I agree with wingryder saying to look at all sides. As a Marine corps vet '91-98, the one thing I learned is to look at all your angles before making a decision. I guess the old saying "To know a man is to walk a mile in his moccassins" comes to light here. please if you are naive to this subject I ask that you be sensitive to the ones, like me, who have had to make this choice, no matter what side of the field.

Have you ever noticed that the history of war is written by the winners. Most winners will write history to put themselves in the best light. Then it is no wonder you don't read about our atrocities in war by reading our history books. Try reading the history books of the losers, then you may get some of their perspective. And, the truth will lie somewhere in the middle.

When you read the history of the Crusades, and spreading Christianity throughout the world, try reading the history of these wars from the Muslims. Then you will read of the great invasions by the infidels. Is either side the accurate truth? Probably not. But, by reading both perspectives, you can find the truth somewhere in the middle.

True History is from the eyes of those who have seen it. All have a different perspective. BTW Infidels are not Christians but the those who are killing today for the sake of their religion.

These men have done the dirty work of history. While war is hell and most of us would rather not have it in our lives, what we as civilians read about soliders throughout history have had to bear a burden that we cannot imagine. I remember looking at my grandfather's WW2 photos of Japanese POWS that were exicuted. He didnt' tell me much about it but he admitted that he had a part in their exicutions. The stress that it put him under was palapable even then and that was 35 years after the event. Granted some men have "reveled" in the killing. But that is how they deal with it. The goverments that send good men to battle are to blame for alot of the injustice of war. The men that were either drafted or chose to go out of a sense of duty deserve the greatest respect.

To preacher311:

Hats off to you, Sir.

It's always fascinating listening to an individual like yourself, who's been there, done that, etc. and to futhur be able to listen to the MAN, as opposed to what his uniform dictated.

Although at the ripe old age of 17, I enlisted as a young man up here (48th Highlanders Infantry Regiment, "C" Company, Canadian Forces Reserves, 1980-82), I've never had the opportunity to see combat; this is ironic, considering at that time, the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan, and it was drilled into us that the possibility of going overseas was quite real. I say "ironic", because NOW, members of my old unit ARE in Afghanistan, fighting and dying.

I guess my point is that back then, we were all hopped-up and raring to go, mostly because we were so goddamn YOUNG. Seems like a gazillion years ago. And now whaen I read the headlines of what's happening to some of my old colleagues, I often wonder what kind of person would it have made me, had I been in a situation to have pulled that trigger, or thrown a grenade or whatever, at another human being. I don't know.

But quite honestly, now on the eve of turning 44, I'm kinda thankful I didn't have to find out.

Someone once said a long time ago (can't remember the author of the quote, but if anyone can, please feel free to add):

"All wars will stop, when all men simply refuse to fight them."

I tend to believe that.

Can you believe this MFing Canadian? Why is he talking about himself here??? I recall reading some of his posts on other clips. Self righteous dick head.
Throbstick:

No surprise there. It figures.

barnsleyfc:

"MF Canadian"? Beautiful retort. As a matter of fact, this will spur me on to send your comment to a few buddies in Afghanistan, with a note, saying basically " THIS is what some Yanks think of you being over there. We go over because THEY were attacked (not because WE were attacked, but THEY), and this a CLASSIC example of their appreciation."

And I was NOT "talking about myself", asswipe. I brought up a coherent point to the idea as it relates to this thread; maybe you oughtta stop taking the short bus to school from now on, huh Jethro? Dumb fuck. And it's a good thing you stayed outta those other posts, because ya clearly can't fuckin' read.

Moron.

Those folks goin' to school on the 'short school bus' - Friends of mine. Maybe some of yer 'friends' comin' back from Afghanistan will do the right thing and wack yer dumbass with their headplate or maybe bury one of those 'new limbs' they came home with in the right place...

barnsley, you're my hero!!!

You have described canuck to a tee.
what the f are you saying idiot canuck. how could any rationale person possibly extend comments clearly directed to you to our troops in Afghanistan??? Idiot. I doubt you know anyone in afghanistan anyway other that the mail order bride that divorced your yellow ass.

How is the following not talking about yourself twathead:

"Although at the ripe old age of 17, I enlisted as a young man up here (48th Highlanders Infantry Regiment, "C" Company, Canadian Forces Reserves, 1980-82), I've never had the opportunity to see combat; this is ironic, considering at that time, the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan, and it was drilled into us that the possibility of going overseas was quite real."

Newsflash canuck, no one give a shit about your puny little existence.

Hmm.

Funny how you omitted this other section:

To preacher311:

"Hats off to you, Sir.

It's always fascinating listening to an individual like yourself, who's been there, done that, etc. and to futhur be able to listen to the MAN, as opposed to what his uniform dictated."

Like I said, Jethro, read what's in front of your inbred eyes before ya make any more stupid comments.

And what's this shit about "our" troops in Afghanistan? You fucknuts are too busy fucking around in Iraq; there are more cops in New York City, than American troops in Afghanistan. Bottom line: yet another good reason to pull the fuck outta there. Who fucking wants to help out a dumb fuckin', ingrate, hillbillies like YOU, anyways?

By the way, it's "giveS", not "give"; it's "rational", instead of "rationalE".

Learn to fucking spell if yer gonna argue with your betters.

...and to FURTHER be able...
...before YOU make any more...
...New York City than American troops...
...Bottom line: Yet another...
...the fuck OUT OF there...
...dumb FUCKING, ingrate, HILLBILLY like...
...spell if YOU'RE GOING TO argue...

oh, and I think "fucknut" should be capitalized: Fucknut.
I disagree.

Capitilizing that word would only give that minority segment of the population FAR too much legitimacy.

I'll stick to using small "f", thanks.

1) you're nto worht the tiem to actuayll take my time typnig/spellnig.

2) will you stop posting to glumbert if I find a typo from you on one of these other clips? No? Thought not. I guess typos only matter when it's someone else. Prick.

3) there are more U.S soldiers in Afghan than there are in the whole canadian army (if oyu can call it that).

4) what a guy. He's now not only talking about himself, but quoting himself. Self absorbed cunt.
Wow. No need to look any further. It's right here twathead. To quote that idiot north of the border:

"Who fucking wants to help out a dumb fuckin', ingrate, hillbillies like YOU, anyways?"

That should be "hillbilly" - singular - ahole. Do us all a favor - stop posting.
Well, if an Einstein like yourself has no problem with quoting me out of context, then I'm more than happy to be a "self-absorbed cunt", and quote myself in PROPER context.

And as for point #3....you're apparently too stupid to know about "ratios", so I won't even bother, and missed the whole point of what I actually wrote anyway. You're too moronic to even stick what's ACTUALLY said.

Spelling aside (Yeah, okay, I make'em too....ya got me thar, Hoss; musta been hard to catch me on that without a diagram, huh?), I probably won't stop posting here, if only because it amuses me to see ignorant, little turds like yourself come outta the woodwork.

But I AM thankful (and flattered) to see that YOU follow MY posts.

Keep it up.

You might actually learn something, Jethro.

Dileas Gu Brath...

No one wins an internet argument... so why people?
No one with any self respect (American, Canadian, etc) posts
repeatedly insulting people. So save some dignity.. stop posting.

Im actually impressed that barnsleyfc actually succeded to signup for glumbert as it requires some reaing skills.
Even i can see he's wrong and i have a reading disability AND engligh is my second language.

But appart from that i think its intresting to see ppl that actually are uneasy about what they have done in combat.
In society we cant condone such behaviour exept in the times of war.
And its problematic to have double standards.
Can Barnsley and Canuck get their own page so they can insult each other and practice their spelling? Then the rest of us can read posts without running into theirs.
Hmmm..

"there are more cops in New York City, than American troops in Afghanistan."

That seems like a reference to "absolute" numbers, not "ratios" dhead. Add being wrong to your list of faults dhead. Stop introducing false references (in this case ratios) that were obviously not there to begin with.

Following your posts?! Could someone please tell me how to avoid this ahole. His vomit is all over the place here.

{{ Children, I'm quite sure there are chatrooms and blogpages where you can actually go and flame your little hearts out at eachother. This is Glumbert, where you come to watch videos and post your comments/thought about them. Not to hold your little bitch fights in. }}

As to the video- Am i the only one that didn't learn much from that short clip? Sounded like common sense to me.. Of course if your'e in a traumatic experience like that for a couple of months, it's going to play around with your emotions

Soldiers every day are dehumanized by routine training per US Government. It doesn't surprise me there are so many psychological problems with war vets.

What is with yanks and cigars? Didn't that die out with arnie and bruce?

So much patriotic hate here.... I wonder what causes war?

murder is acceptable in the world of the mohammedhans isn't it?. . .as well as the Thuggees of the nineteenth century?

Sad statement of affairs for our species. We love to kill, and that will be our downfall!
Hmmm...killing is murder no matter how you dress it up. Animals kill to defend territory that they need for food and survival, or to protect their offspring. A human being would have to be severely broken or defective to kill for any other reason.
