Is this effect not called "stitching," described on TED.com, where they use hundreds or thousands of photos of one subject (taken by different people at different times from different locations), find where they overlap, do some math to make them seamless and "3D" (sim).
A full-length vid of anything would show it better (than a biscuit-sized flv).
