How does ANYBODY here have a clue about these peoples lives... i mean we all have internet access, and I assume homes, food, water, and pounds of other luxeries we don't even realize we have.. And then without a clue, feel fit to critique the people involved in this lifestyle..I for one applaud thier use of space.

I'm in Bangkok at the moment (have been based out in Asia for a while) and I can report it has a modern underground, a skytrain system and to all intents and purposes is truly a modern city. Modern water, 5mb internet. Major problem is congestion as the ratio of road space to total area of development is tiny - hence the use of as much space as possible...
It also has (as many cities do) it's share of slums - I think this was taken in a slum known as Klong Toey

These happen anywhere, but I can honestly truly say that I have NEVER felt safer as a foreigner in an Asian country than I do in Thailand
Manila - no way, Jakarta - dodgy, Karachi - armed guard at all time, KL ok but a bit boring, Singapore - so clinical it's unreal, Shanghai - same as NY, London, anywhere huge - always an element of risk
