These rappers embarass themselves and their fellow black youths when they write crap like that. They call it self expression, but the truth is that it's filth that lacks any substance. At least groups such as the black eye'd peas write lyrics about politics, history, and culture and use ideas to express their vision.
black eyed peas? my humps? when they were unpopular and underground they did. but as soon as they got mainstream success, they sold out and became a bunch of uncle toms like the rest of them.
i find it funny...im tired of these lame ass "club" songs. I cant hate on t-bag for making his money...but come on, who really likes to just listen to that shit? It should not be played outside of a club. EVER.
This sort of recitation of song lyrics goes back decades. It actually works best for comedy if the "singer" is serious about getting into the meaning of the song instead of trying to make fun of it. Two great examples are the hilarious works of William Shatner (The Transformed Man) and Sebastian Cabot (Bob Dylan, Poet, Sebastian Cabot, Actor). On the flip side, I remember Steve Allen (who hated a lot of rock lyrics) trying to create comedy by reciting The Beatles' "Come Together" on live tv and it BOMBED HORRIBLY. He knew it, thanked the audience and got off stage quickly.
Ok I agree that some of the songs rappers write about is not the business and believe me I am not a rap fan and I am a black woman, but I would rather listen to a song about someone buying me a drink (even though you aint getting me in the bed for no cheap drink), than songs about drugs (chasing rabbits.....huh). So if you really want to talk about worthless songs, lets include all musicians out there instead of just rappers.
