It wouldn't be cheaper than gas or diesel. Liquid nitrogen sells for 25 bucks for 2 liters. But, this is pretty neat. I wonder exactly how long it lasts, I'm nervous that it only last for a very short time, making it essentially useless for real world application, aside from sweet ass toys.
The colling lasts for a couple minutes, maybe 15 or so. I saw that demo (done by the same guy as in this vid) on a trade show last year. They had a setup there where the rail was suspended so you could see there is nothing hidden to move or levitate the train. Quite cool, though for a real world train a closed cooling system would be required, they had a quite large dewar with liquid nitrogen on their booth.
I was paying ~$3/gallon, (so less than $1/liter) back in college. I imagine it has gone up, (since the only trick to making it is using a bunch of energy,) but not that much. But the only time we bought more was when it leaked, (which happened often enough,) mainly we went to a lot of effort to recirculate and re-cool it.
(Not that a gallon of N2 is at all comparable to a gallon of gasoline, or anything, but...)
I'm argumentative when I see someone is wrong, otherwise I'm open to your ideas and thoughts. Just keep them sane and tolerable... Otherwise there's really no point in talking, is there?
A parlor trick, and "superconductors" is a swell word, but this isn't a demonstration of true potential. Think electrons actually traveling at the speed of light doing practical work.
Fuck Bush! If I was in charge we WE WOULD ALREADY HAVE THESE. Goddamit! Listen to ME - I have a medal. And universal health care. Cheney is a criminal. OMG OMG
That's not nearly smug or cocky enough. You have to talk with more of an air that you're the greatest AND that everyone already recognizes and reveres you as their intellectual and moral superior. Also, more LOLOLOLOLLLLOLL and exclamation marks, and swearing depending on if it's his time of the month or not.
Interesting idea, but like he said probably wont work full scale. Although teh future of transportation may well be in magnetics, I dont think its in liquid nitrogen... although frictionless bearings have a lot of applications as well...
THis will never work on a big train cause global warming will make all that nitrogen stuff really really warm, and it won't get cold enough to freeze the train above the track like that. Al Gore told me so.
It was June 2132, the nitro train stopped at the hilltown and at that moment the train fell from the glider killing 6 of Mr Fifields' best cows, it was found to be a;
