Not in yours either. This isn't a war and these people aren't enemy combatants.
Yeah...only one technique works.
BTW-I think waterboarding has now been used on 3 people...successfully all 3 times.
Given none of us are party to the process or heard the first hand results (gurguling and spluttering excluded) one can only assume we have been told it was a 'success' in order to justify continuation of similar techniques.
Torture tends to yield results - oftentimes spurious and out of desperation just to end the suffering
Roll on removal of finger nails and red hot pokers Edward II stylee
All in the name of YOUR safety
If we're gonna do then do it properly and keep it quiet. No sense in pulling punches (excuse the pun). If this is a War on Terror, make it a total war with all the trimmings.
Everybody talks, tortured or not. And they will say anything under torture, as history has proved. Torture may be effective if you can use it all the time, and not just on the enemy. But so much false information is given, it has to be expanded in a ever widening circle in a effort to verify that false information is false. Eventually, like all terrorist states in history this widening circle extends to the enemy, the disliked, and then the innocent.
...and I bring this forward because of its relevance here. I saw a story on 60 minutes last night that was quite interesting. I guess rule of law depends on your perspective. Conviction Of Don Siegelman:
I guess everyone should be concerned about this new American standard for the justice department. I would guess that it will keep getting worse until we have a government replicating Argentina's handling of dissidents. He's not missing, but maybe a fleet of black Ford Falcons could become the new government tool against domestic terrorism. After all we have to keep ourselves safe from this kind of dictatorship. And if you think you can divide a nice fuzzy line on water boarding being torture, just imagine someone water boarding your dog. What conclusion would you come to?
neo conservative backed? lol wow The only remotely conservative media is fox news. Which I admit should only be looked at for clues as to what is really going on in any giving situation would could have otherwise been spun by the liberal media.
I find it strange that I actually have to tell you that more than 99% of the media is liberal.
Pay attention to that liberal media. It agrees with everything you think you know because they told you everything you know. lol
Well kinda - Tim Berners Lee set the first site up at CERN in Switzerland and then developed stuff more when he was at MIT
Think DARPA-net was something kicking around in the 60s and 70s but didn't have the capabilities of the www at the time.
Like all good inventions it was obviously looked at for it's military uses prior to general release. As for monitoring then I'll say a quick 'Hi' to whoever does the monitoring when I type:
I have only heard the internet being started by US military.
They didn't have websites then ..lol , probably still working on vacuum tubes. But one guy at one site can't set up a network like it it is acccepted now.
The idea was to build a cross country net of communication , web of redundancy, so military communications could always be carried on. But I wasn't born then so I just going by what I've heard.
Johnq - you heard right - like I said DARPA set up a system that was the forefather of the www.
Tim B-L actually got the thing running on a world wide basis from CERN in 1992 having devised the hypertext system a couple of years before.
Conicidentally the US govt dispanded ARPA-net around the same time so you can be sure they must have devised a more highly encrypted and secure parallel system of sorts
You are correct in saying that one man was not responsible for the start up - that indeed was ARPA-net. One man WAS responsible for getting the www up and running as we know it today though.
That's why he is fairly highly awarded. To name a few of his accolades:
Knighted (KBE) by H.M. the Queen for services to the global development of the Internet - this means you call him 'Sir'
Awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE - which some take to mean Other Bugger's Efforts)
Awarded the Order of Merit by H.M. the Queen
Named "One of the 100 greatest minds of the century" by Time Magazine
Special Award of the American Society for Information Science and Technology
Member, American Philosophical Society
Common Wealth Award for Distinguished Service for Mass Communications
Financial Times Lifetime Achievement Award
President's Medal, the Institute of Physics
MITX (Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange) Leadership Award
I remember the good old days when i had a commodore 64 and a 2400 baud modem and ran my owqn BBS(BULLETIN BOARD STSYEM) those were the days............................NOT LOL
Every once in a while, I'll come across something that'll make me look at it, and insprire a genuine sense of "WTF???". This.....is one of those times:
Interesting that a robot can make a tactical decision regarding life and death on the battlefield but cannot make a loaf of bread.
But, I bet building those are very interesting from a engineering point of view. I can see why engineers would be drawn into that line of work with a unlimited budget.
And none of these machines will ever be a threat to Mitercut, just interesting targets.
When Jordan wanted a suspect they would start with his/her family. They would lose there jobs, power and phones would be disconnected, no money, no contact, no food, no school, nothing. After a month the police would go to the home and ask for the suspect. If they didn't get answers, the lost of everything would continue. When the family was totally without hope they'd hand them a phone and say call the suspect. If they turned themselfs in everything would be put back, power, jobs, money, etc,.
Jordan does not have anyone on there want list at the moment. Go after the family, they must protect their families. That works. The Saudis kill there families if required.
The Russians put dissidents in insane asylums.
Canada we give them government jobs and the others in our senate. With great salaries ,benefits and retirement packages that are indexed to inflation.
He did the right thing made poor little Ali cry and then he took advantage of that what did he do? I know strap him down and hold a box of tissues out just so he couldn't reach it.
canuck1963 tries to insult people,by referring to trailer parks and such. He must know ist hand of this type of abode. In life one should try to help people instruct, not just put downs . i for one will no longer comment on any of your verbal diarrhea.
I think if the canada people need to fight they should move to the US, that way I can go home to O-canada joryous and free.
Us yanks are the ones always fighting.
planettint i am only canadaman and canuck1962.
If it wasn't for you and some of the other intelligent blogers i wouldn't waste my time here.
But communicating with some insignificant bug who only knows how to insult as far as i am concerned is not a good use of my time .
I blogg at my office to get away from all the phones my staff etc. Example one of my machines went down ,its cost is $1,540,000. The service man charges $200 an hour plus travel time .
This is suppose to be fun and informative for me not being bugged by a arrogant small minded Bathurst Street fuck head.
planettint, you will only get a positive or negative response from me,not a personal put down.
Unfortunately i got caught up in that down WORD cycle. We have to look to our idols attitudes and try to not cheddite the situation. Tonight is my fight nite 9 minutes of trusting yourself and the person you are fighting.
Most people can't understand why we do this . My wife ,my mother but it is a lot of releasing of male testosterone. After we go out have a beer and some thing to eat. The best part is every one there after a while ,leaves their egos at the door, and you meet the real people inside, some bad some good.Mostly good.
Yes i agree this is almost a cross between a SISKEL AND EBERT(EBERT AND ROPER) site and a DEBATE site your gonna get all different views and responses because every1 has there own opinions anyway to make a long story short i like it here and most of the people that post comments and u r alright in my book so CHEERS
I agree planetitnt ,if we don't get into personal slurs, its funand informative Canukie is a bright guy and i don't know why he stoops so low some times . Hopefully will verbally scrap but no low blows .I for one enjoy some of his posts without the verbal thuggery.
But i got to tell you maybe it was that machine being down,my guards were down and I got my ass whipped tonight. My wife is out and shes back, she won't be to happy with my black eye and cut lip. It will heal and next week lookout.
Canadaman, I understand your sentiments, but I have learned that canuck relishes a good controversy (aka, pissing contest) , and if you engage him, he will indeed do his pit bull act, with frequent references to his ample vulgar/profane/scatological resources...but usually doing so in creative ways. It's his charm. And when domesticated, his is quite an intelligent ande fun person.
My point....don't be over-sensitive on this site. Take a "time out" now and then, if you feel the anger or frustration rising. I know I have gone over the top a couple of times, so now avoid those topics that seem to hit my sore spots.
I do still enjoy monitoring the site...lots of good folks, and quite bright too. So, hang around, and enjoy the good parts.
Just a general reference, meaning "safe to have in the house", sorta.
You have to admit, there's lotsa stuff you post that little kids shouldn't see/hear. You're hardly alone there, but you're best posts (IMO) haven't depended on your lusty lexicon. (On the other hand I have to admit they aren't your funniest either).
No matter....good to see your regular contributions.
How do you make a terrorist cry? Simple, just tell him that everything he has done is in vain. He doesn't scare us. GWB and Dick have trumped him tenfold. What's scarier than a retard and his pitbull running the free world? A suicide bomber? A little bit of anthrax? I don't think so.
has anyone noticed or is it just me that @ around 3.45 onwards the FBI agent loses his composure a little and just maybe he grew to like the man (terrorist) but not what he did.
Mako...you're right, it is called the Stockholm Syndrome. Remember Patty Hurst and the Symbionese deal years ago...supposedly she had been kidnapped and held so the might access her father's great wealth...and over time in their custody became swayed to her captors' views to the point where she actually participated in a bank holdup with them.
This was captured on a bank video camera, and her defense when later called to account was this same syndrome. Akin to brainwashing, I think, but less aggressive.
I think it goes both ways...i.e., either party can become swayed to the other's view...in the interrogator's case, he may have developed a certain empathy for his detainee, but he most certainly did not adopt any part of the detainee's views.
In fact, he capitalized on Ali's dependecy on him (assuming what we viewed is an accurate rendition of what actually happened).
this is the canuck synrome -
dont tickle me i''ll tell you anything you want to know.
