I hate to say it, but when I was in Navy boot camp... guess which guys struggled the hardest to pass the swim test? Yes, the brothers. So is this genetic, or a result of different environment?
I think african/black/negro (whatever the PC term is for someone of colour) people do tend to have denser bone structure with fewer air pockets which affects bouyancy. They may also have lower levels of body fat than whitey too - also affecting bouyancy
That said, Sabhir Muhammed was an African-american who broke a bunch of US swimming records.
I understand Africans were considered the worlds best swimmers between the 15th and 18th century. Living in a land of hippos, crocs and sharks will do that to you...
The other reasons may be that they don't like swimming in piss-filled public baths; black women find it a real pain in the arse getting their hair wet; racial discrimination etc
These guys are on air? what the hell? Are they saying Austrailia and Equitorial Guinea are complete jokes? These guys on the air sound so idiotic and racist they should out of all decency be removed from their jobs. They must be so old that they don't realize that people are very interested in people not races. I am amazed, that these people are on the air! What country is this? Actually, what date was this made? Maybe we are in a weird world where this behavior is acceptable...I don't want to be a part of this world. This athlete displayed everything that was olympic...too bad these guys are never going to be close.
anner442 -
you are an unreconstructed moron. If you don't know what date this was made you are even worse - an ignorant fuckpig.
There is nothing whatsoever racist in this. You are the nightmare of every normal human being who ever bestrode the planet.
...."bestrode....?" Hmmm....nice one...will have to look it up....don't recall seeing it before, but then, I had to look up "toff" the other day also. A word a day and, damn, you've got 365 in only a year.
BTW, BWB, other than your profound commitment to crass commentary, the thrust of your message is on target, re: anner442...clearly he/she is finding fault where none was intended, which requires one to muster all the huff 'n puff righteous outrage possible to lend energy to an otherwise hollow cause.... doncha think ?
Okeydokey..."bestrode" = past participle of "bestride", meaning to stand over (something). Soooooo...I've added it to my repetoire, but probably would use it a bit differently.
Another no-so-incidental BTW - I am reminded of (name?) Eddie the Eagle (?), the less-than-olympian English ski-jump competitor whose performance was remarkable for its brazen incompetence at a dangerous sport...he was roundly and persistently laughed at...yet always with the underlying admiration of those who made light of his accomplishments. I think this same dynamic was at work for the brave-yet-ungifted swimmer here.
Cheers, and have a laugh...it's admiration at work after all.
