It wasn't all that impressing except for the fact that there were 100 or whatever, because the horses could of done that by themselves if they wanted to...
horses are living in group, problem come out in lack of leadering, same as human, when we find no leader or a wrong leader be found, that's disaster.
by the way, i like the music here
Man (or woman) just giving a little help for a spectacular result.
Horses always needed to be led.
Great music, Chariots of Fire by Vangelis, in the movie by the same name.
I honestly don't understand how this is at all amazing. The horses were too dumb to know the water was shallow enough to walk through; I think if anything this just shows that horses are stupid animals.
Retro....the cheers are for the folks, and their stirring success in saving all those "stupid" horses. Horses, like so many other "social" animals, do indeed require a leader, so I expect the issue was whether or not the
?herd/?pack would accept as leaders those women on horseback.
Which brings up another issue....where were the men?
I also wonder at the number of horses running free in Northern Holland...particularly since most all that region is below sea level and, I suspect, prone to floodings like this. I guess I just have never thought of that area being like the "wild west".
Anyway, the video was nicely accompanied by the "Chariots" theme which kind of evoked an emotional response.
It was very clever of the women to establish themselves as the leaders and rescue the horses. You can tell they were in a terrible panic on the island.
To aubrex, the horses could not do this if they wanted to as horses are completely herd animals. They will go to what they have been taught is safe and familiar to them, which is why they will run into a burning barn to die instead of run away. They would have stood there and died before they would have moved. A little knowledge of herd animals and herd instinct would be of benefit to you.
This is a wonderful video, thank God for the women to save all those horse"s
It was a joy to watch & the music was perfect. This will be in my favorites.
I remember when this happened. My daughter & I were in Holland living there at this time.We were there 9 yrs, coming back to the states in 2007.
I recall the owner of these horses got in big troubles. Alot are fries(friesan in American) and Tinkers(gypsyvanners) and foals...... and alot of these horses were sold, since taken away from the man (breeder).
I remember seeing the ads to buy one of the horses.I like two colored (bonte-in dutch ) horses...I brought my one colored horse from Holland to america.
It was a BIG deal in Holland, those horses caught on that tiny island in Friesland.... since its a BIG equestrian place. But the dutch all know how to deal with water there. All are taught to swim , in school...... except my daughter who refused, ha.ha....
Alot of horses in that small country.Im thankful I got mine out since they do also slaughter & eat horsemeat there.
