You might find that a shiaa is a muslim . There is no one group called Shiaas, their are several groups with different beliefs and practices but all are muslim.
This video is pretty misleading because the music dubbing completely removes the context of what is happening in the video.
What's happening is a Majlis (religious gathering) of Shi'a Muslims, led by senior religious scholar, Ayatollah Hakim al-Sadr, who was ironically killed by the Saddam Hussein government in Iraq a number of years ago.
The Majlis is commemorating the brutal murder and killing of Husayn ibn Ali, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and Husayn's entire family save one child, in the plains of Karbala in modern-day Iraq. They were surrounded by an army and massacred.
The martyrdom is commemorated and mourned by Shi'a Muslims every year, who revere Husayn as the 3rd Imam (spiritual leader) and often includes 'self-beating' in their demonstrated grief.
In the video, right when Hakim al-Sadr starts beating himself, he has just finished reading the final sentence of the story of Husayn's sacrifice: "He then sat on his (Husayn) chest, repeatedly stabbing him with his sword, held him by his beard and then cut off his blessed head."
Sunni Muslims do not commemorate Husayn's martyrdom in such a physical manner, although many do not partake in anything "fun and joyous" during the dates of Husayn's tribulations and murder, as this was the Prophet's grandson and the Prophet's family that was killed.
There is no such practices as thoose that so called shia muslims practice acceptable in islam. Islam is following the quran and sunnah of the prophet (pbuh) and nothing else. Shia practices have nothing to do with islam as much as shia muslims might like to label them as they might as well call themselves non believers.
