Sad to say it's fake. Check wikipedia for war of roses (radio show). Any radio station would be entirely aware of this law:

From Wikipedia (idk how accurate this is): A now infamous episode of War of the Roses resulted in a sad and shocking revelation for listener Chris. Chris called in about his girlfriend and him having trouble and the Rise Guys called to find out what was going on. When they called Chris' girlfriend's cell phone, her boss answered, and at first Chris was livid, thinking she was probably cheating on him with her boss. The boss, stunned at the moment, lied to Chris that his girlfriend was killed in a side-impact collision. It was later revealed that the girlfriend was playing a practical joke on the boyfriend.
