i used to smoke 4 packs per day......for 20 years......i quit because my kids thought i smelled bad all the time......they were right.....smokers do really stink (if you want to hurt yourself by smoking, that is your business, but let me tell you: you stink!)
The scary thing is, there's a lot of crap we breath every day, without ever knowing, that does the same thing, ever get stuck behind a big rig, cook at home with gas, radon in your house, second hand smoke, how bout that big fat doobie, hell we're all doomed!
I do think that smoking is a terrible thing to do, that it kills a rediculous amount of people each year, but I hate these commercials. They're kind of like those Above the Influence commercials, they are propaganda machines. 150mL of tar a year? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
When you have a national health care system the government LOVES ads like these.. cuts costs if everyone is healthy... It aint working, but when has a Government paid attention to the boring facts.
I read in a mag at the doctors once that made me laugh, a recent poll showed that tobacco use in teens and Pre-teens is back on the rise... Seems that when you tell teens not to do something, they actually (gasp!) often do the opposite.
Don't know if I agree with the poll... but the underlaying idea is sound.

i love all the posts AGAINST this. health risks or not, smokers are suckers. think of all the money you'd save if you could've resisted peer pressure or tried to impress a girl by being cool in another way. If you wanted to be cool, at least a Member's Only Jacket won't give you cancer (at least I don't think so). You probably could've afforded one.
I'm surprised they didn't show a real lung from a smoker. In a college med class we had a lab that had us examining a smokers lung, that was far worse than the tar goo in the pinkie lung they showed! To hell with all the media hype, were all going to get it one way or another, I don't even smoke, never did, and what do I get...fucking melanoma! You just can't win.
First of all, smoking doesnt make you a sucker, many people dont start from peer pressure or trying to impress a girl, and if you want to smoke thats your business, its your choice wether or not you decided to start or quit. Sure people do stupid things and start for the wrong reasons, but how is that going to effect any one besides the one who smokes. There are plenty of worse things in the world than tabacco smoke, so if you wanna smoke go ahead, if not, then dont. but it shouldnt bother any one wether you do or not, and even if the health effects are bad, so are a bunch of other things, like drinking and drug abuse and others, and if you do your research, agreeing with pipedog, the main funding for anti-smoking commercials is by Big tobacco companies, they know kids do the opposite of what they are told. They dont fund these to make people quit, they now it will get kids to start.
I lost my father (age 51) and my sister (age 54) to lung cancer. They were both smokers. People can make their own choice whether to smoke or not. Just wish the folks close to me had not smoked.
well cigarettes are gay, they do nothing, dont get you high, or nothing i have no respect for smokers actually, theres this guy @ work who smokes and also chew chewing tobacco and i honestly cant wait till the poor fucker dies and say i told ya so ;). The shits fucking gross id rather smoke bud at least and actually feel something instead of a harsh plume of smoke going down my throat , and by the way, cigarettes used to give me the shits for some reason, id be standing up and then id spark one up and then VROOOM i had so much shit about to come out my ass i htought i would almost fucking die. anyways..... yawn, thats there fucking choice GO DIE. thx.
Cigarettes are such a money maker and such a life killer and destroyer, some people think it feels good to smoke a cigarette like I think it's nice to smoke a joint, but it's not worth it, just never start, it's not cool to smoke shit wrapped in paper, even if the actors in big movies were payed millions to smoke in them, it's just not cool. Imagine if no body smoked and then one day you saw a guy and he was smoking a cigarette and you could smell the nasty smell of the smoke, you would think that he is fucked up for smoking shit wrapped with paper. Just know that you are so lucky to be a human and that your life should be as long as you can make it, and you should make other people enjoy there life too. Don't waste your money on shit wraps.
