Somehow I think that Snipers would be firing into the crowd, water cannons deployed, and tear gas filling the yard would be the end result of such a production.
The good thing about this is that while they were rehearsing and performing this extravaganza they weren't able to rape or stab each other for a while.
RE Canuck
Are you thinking that if the inmates could organize themselves into this 'artistic masterpeice', they could organize themselves into an army and take over the prison.
Impressive. MOST impressive. I may have to keep my eye on your future posts. I mean that sincerely.
At any rate...you are correct.
Think of it this way: we have a clip here, of a large group of inmates in a 1500-bed capacity correctional facility (or so I glean from the description); an issue of whether this is a facility that serves in a remand capacity (i.e. ordered held until trial disposition) or a penitentitiary-style model (i.e. convicted, and actually "serving time") is a moot one; the point is that they are....inmates. Prisoners. In short, deprived of liberty. From this clip, you can tell that this is a LOT of prisoners in one specific area of the facility; and look at them: if you take into account the sheer orginization...the discipline...they took upon themselves to execute this...then its implications ARE disturbing. Rows; formations; ranks; stand; move; be still; move; follow the cues....and execute.
Someone (or some) amongst them had the chutzpah to pull them all together, and follow the lock-step; that makes this person(s) a risk. And that's really what it boils down to...doesen't it? : Risk assessment. Does THIS....equate to any potential risk, insofar as the security of the institution goes? I say most definitely...yes.
And if ANY of the correctional staff in this Phillipinne facility had any sense, they would immediately (but subtley) move in, pinpoint the enablers, organizers.....and quietly have them moved, i.e. transferred.
1500 inmates who are deprived of their liberty and forced to live in close-confinement AND who can be made this disciplined and organized.......
fall into the "risk assessment" category.
And the "risk" most definitely (in this case)....is NOT worth it.
Again, good work rhyolite; I look forward to your future offerings with great interest.
canuck1863, I would totally agree with you if we were talking about the US, Canada or a relatively well-off nation. However, your analysis is somewhat biased and does not necessarily apply to the Philippines.
The Philippines is a very poor country, where the lower class and poverty-stricken outnumber the middle and upper class. Although their freedom is taken away from them, they are fed relatively well and have safe places to sleep in. Of course, those with families and other interests outside of prison could indeed (as you say) pose a risk.
a bit disturbing, sort of inspiring, and definitely a better use of time than killing each other in prison... or is it? I don't know... somehow I'm strangely turned on...
This was the most dangerous, disturbing thing I've seen being done in a prison, by inmates. Jokes about quality of music, timing of dancers and Michael Jackson aside. WORSE than stabbings, drugs or anything to do with smuggled contraband.
I give a question to the specifically SENSIBLE ones on these threads, who are quite intelligent, to try and guess .......
as to why this is so.
You know who you are.
(Just wait until the usual pckerheads get their banal comments in, and then give it a shot)
Wow... this is just like Thriller, only that instead of dancing, they're kinda shuffling around in circles... and instead of hearing the song, we hear just hear the beat annoyingly repeated ad naseum.
So...
In other words, this was nothing like Thriller... which was over rated to begin with.
Lame.
Would have been cool if MJ had actually been there, because he molested one too many little kids.
Is this rehabilitation? Shouldn't they be spending their time on more productive things...such as a trade or skill? other than walking around like zombies or dancing (if you can call that dancing)? Is there a big need in the Phillipines for this crap? Guess I missed the boat...
This is awesome! Anyone who thinks otherwise is being killjoy.
You morons, this is part of their rehab as exercise. Of course they do other things. The center educates in many other ways, including arts and crafts and other skill training. This prison also has savings accounts for it's prisoners so that they can save up for their families and for legal fees. It is in a word, progressive. There is even a prison in the Philippines that has no jail cells and inmates are allowed to live with their families while they serve time and do rehab. The whole idea behind this sort of activity is talked about by the warden in this article:
canuck1963 you are absolutely ridiculous yes the leader of these thriller dancing inmates must be an incredible risk why he gathered them together and somehow, through intimidation and strength, led them to reproduce the dance from a michael jackson video oh yes this man has sinister plans indeed does this prove that these are prisoners capable of organizing and working together yes BUT THEY ARE DANCING TO THRILLER NOT RIOTING AGAINST THEIR GUARDS and if you look it up on youtube you will see that thriller is just one of their many routines my advice to you is stop being such a prick and one other thing who of us has not been moved to dance by michael jackson? these prisoners are just acting on basic human instincts...the need to dance
What are you, some kind of a fuckin' idjit?? Or a social worker? Or both?
Where do you see I ever wrote that they were "rioting against their guards"??? Plus, how the fuck would YOU know what could or couldn't happen in a correctional facility (or ANY facility, for that matter)?? Huh?
My whole point was "risk assessment", fuckhead.
Read it again: Risk. Assessment.
"these prisoners are just acting on basic human instincts...the need to dance"
Okay.
THAT....is the STUPIDEST, MOST ASININE THING I have EVAH read on these threads. Like, are you some kind of Oprah-Follower or somethin'??
Yeah, thay acted on their "human instincts" alright.....for rape, murder, buggery, robbery and who-the-fuck-knows-what-else...WHICH IS WHY THEY'RE IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, YOU FUCKIN' DIMWIT!! I'm sure if you lived in the Phillipinnes, and one
"who of us has not been moved to dance by michael jackson?"
Oh mah gawd....where do you fuckin' people crawl out from? Huh??
I'm sure if you lived there, and one of these assholes raped, stabbed and butchered your entire family, I'm sure you'd be SOOOOOO gratified to know that the guy who did it, is fulfilling his "need to dance"; Oh boy, I bet your fuckin' tune changes REAL FAST then, don't it?
You'll be the first one screaming for these pukes to be gassed like rabid dogs.
I'm flabbergasted why people would think otherwise against this kind of exercise. Can't you see the dedication and discipline given by these inmates? They were not forced to do this, like some of you suggest. So what if the "girl" is a drag. Bunch of homos. You can never do something like this in your country because everybody would end up killing each other. Rest my case.
