He has a right to say that the school was wicked. They took away the rights and equality from his daughter. I believe that if you were in a similar situation, say, harassed for dating someone you loved but no one else liked them, you have every right to be happy with that person and live without fear.

Excuse but the way that I, as an atheist, tell bad from good is common sense. I do not need a document that is fictional and outdated to tell me what is right and wrong. Your joking right? All of my friends are either Agnostic or Atheist and none of them actually believe in God. They just say Agnostic because they don't know and will never now. I am Atheist. It's just the result of an educated community. The more educated a society is, the higher percentage of Atheists there are.

I'm a Christian that believes in a six day creation. Science is great! Real science. Not bad science. "Big bang" "Evolving" is all magic. A God who is outside (bigger) than time space and matter, to me, is logical. Science is the observation of cause and effect. Evolution doesn't observe anything. God is the ultimate effect, He had no cause.

alright... i wanted to just say that i am a christian. i also wanted to say that i, along with many other christian people i know, would never treat another human being this way regardless of their personal beliefs. i look at this athiest girl with the same love i look at everyone else with. some people get christianity confused with religion.. religion is about seperation, rules and limitations. Christ despised religious people. the word christian means "Christ like". a person who truthfully says "i am a christian" is a person who does his/her best to follow Jesus Christ's example because they believe he is the guide to everlasting inner peace on earth and eternal life with God after this life. the people who treated this girl with such disrespect, by definition, are NOT christians. they may believe that Christ is the son of God.. but by their actions they are obviously confused about what it means to live a christian life. to all the athiests out there: like i said, i got no beef with you guys and would embrace you as brothers/sisters just as i would any christian person. i hope that one day people will stop stereo-typing christians when they hear about things like this..but on the same note, i would hope that one day christians would stop stereotyping nonbelievers and treat them as Christ would.
I am an atheist, and all of my friends are more or less. Not because I chose to find atheist friends, but because I work with mostly computer software developers, and I guess most of the software developers are atheist.
I really don't believe there is a god by any sense any religious person believes.
I also don't need it. It not necessary by any means for me to be happy or feel safe in my life. Others may need religion to feel safe or be happy, and I won't stop you or say anything if you walk up to me and say you believe in god.
I think religion only provides false-purpose to people, and is more or less a crutch to help you through life.

I agree with beingoflight, christians are those who are "Christ-like", its said in the Bible that you will know them by their fruits. American christianity is false, it's only a tradition! Going to church on Sundays and saying a prayer once wont get you saved! A truly christian does what pleases God, but if you do what the world does, look like the world, you're not a christian, you're just practicing religion.
Now God exists. Each one of us has an intuitive nature to worship some supreme being. Look back on human history, any tribe discovered, any ancient civilizations, any nation, they all believed and worshiped someone. God created man with this nature so we would search for Him, it's a desire.
And I think there's no need to prove God, everything proves that He exists. For example take a look at our brain, our eye, our universe!, it's so complex, we can't even come close with our technology, and evolutions teaches that we/and everything came from nothing, what?, nothingness! If it takes that much intelligence to invent something, how can they believe that everything came from nothing!? It takes more faith to believe evolution that religion.

You are kidding right? How many unspeakable atrocity's are committed in His name. The history of all religions, and faiths are replete with horror. A great deal of the worst, of the worst were Christians. Christians are in denial of a long history of oppression and outright "Evil" in the history of human existence. I am agnostic, and I believe in your quest for self improvement by any means, but please also accept a history that is well known.
I have met many Christians, but I have not yet met one that did not think they were better than me because they are Christian.

I went through some of what this girl went through as I was an atheist child. I remember my friends in a small all christian hell or else town always pretending or believing I dont know that I was a satanist.

OK, Atheists/Christians listen up. Try to take it all in with out the fluff and gratuitous verbiage. 1) It isn't a God that causes people to fight, its a difference in type of belief system. - Civil war, revolutions, personal fame, country fame 2) Evil people, who have lived over the centuries, have placed the blame of their wicked wars on God. When their objective was land or power, or simple to not have to put up with someone disagreeing with them (whether the belief was religious or not). Its easy to blame God, the way its easy to blame how you are screwed up on your parents.
3)Taking this into consideration how can anyone possibly believe that if there was no God there would be no war, everyone would just kill each other based on their race (as usual), or language, their differences in scientific views, gender (as usual) , place of birth, and hopefully in the future get more advanced and base it on genetics. The fact is there is Good and there is Evil no matter what you believe.
4)However!!!! The point of God, is Love. In the Bible God described as the embodiment of Love, as being one and the same. The problem is that with this being a central truth, God's love must be discredited in order to discredit Him. (atheists I know you have a barrage of old testament "facts" to go against His love, say it eloquently and I will explain it, if you actually care to listen and don't just want to fight for the sake of it (that how wars begin).
5) Doesn't matter if you choose not to believe in God, you still have a faith. Faith is ingrained it is like breathing. The lack of belief in God is only turning your faith to the beautiful things he created (science, the aesthetic, nature,good human nature) or the evil that he is against (evil in human nature) . But you cannot get rid of faith it will simple shift. But because of this faith and because of human nature, war will always be. You try to destroy God because you think it will destroy faith but what really needs to be changed (or destroyed) is the evil human nature. That is the heart of God.

7)Now onto science. Here's the thing guys neither side really has it right. Please do your homework, evolution, as is, is mathematically impossible. The statistics of that type of chain reaction (from big bang to ) to the amount of holes in between evolutions chronology of the development of earth, life and the cosmos. However!!! The proof of elements in evolution are undeniable and any Christian who says otherwise simple does not understand evolution principles. Example, adaptation, the ability of a species to change based upon the skills most necessary for that species to survive in a particular region. But here is the confusion, God is a god of science, he loves it, he created it, he knows it better than anyone because he made up the rules. You can see this as you watch a correlation between scientific principle and spiritual principles, but most are two busy fighting for one side to see how they correlate. Simple truth, God said let it be and then there was a "big bang" and it was. Evolutionists, just try explaining it otherwise; there will always be one step BEHIND that you cannot explain, both philosophically and scientifically. One day God and science will come together (in a more widely popular and celebrated way) and God will show his truth.

My guess is though that most anti-God some atheists, some agnostic, some Christian, simply do not want truth, they want what they were taught or they want what won't make them feel like they should aspire to be better. One thing I don't understand is if the bible says "judge not, lest thee be judged" and atheists are tolerant liberals, why are there so many judgemental, intolerant messages on this page? I suspect it's because the root of all evil isn't money (or religion), it is just people. All of us.

How many were started for religious reasons and how many for secular reasons? What were the respective death tolls in these wars? Were the religious wars more destructive than the secular wars?

The little quote you refer to is known a Pascal's Wager. Let's take a look at that. If I go through life not believing, and I am wrong, and there is a god, he can accept me into heaven. Great! Or he can cast me out for not believing. Bummer. But is it really credible that this being who someone created all time and space, and who is omniscient and omnipotent, and is the god of love referred to on some of the above posts, will cast me out of heaven just because I made a reasoned decision not to believe? Rather harsh, no? I would like to think that type of god could give a little slack or forgiveness. "God does not grant miracles to those who mock him" - Did god tell that to you? How do you know? Why can't god have a sense of humour? Why is the Christian god so often so unrelenting in his demands, if his believers are to be believed?
On the other hand, what if there is no god. Is it really such a big deal then if I go through life believing that there is? Well, the problem with that is that a very large number of people do believe there is a god, but they don't accept The Others saying that their god is incorrect, or that they are worshipping the wrong way - it has tended to cause just a wee bit of tension, wars, family fueds, genocides, and so on. I actually know people who refused to attend their own child's wedding because she married into the "wrong" religion. And then there is the poor example of this brave student in the video. No thanks, far too much bitterness with all that for me to adopt religon just as a safety valve.
On balance, I choose to go through my life without being burdened by any type of fairy tale. Maybe I am wrong. I have read many arguments pro and con as to existence of god and don't think that I am. (I am in that lucky top echelon as far as formal education goes). But I just don't want to go through my life thinking that I must appease some mythical, vengeful god, "Just in case".
Many of the posts revolve around Chrisianity. Why? Americans tend to automatically equate the idea of religion with Jesus. But that is only by virtue of the time and place of your birth. That does not make your beliefs any more credible or rationale than people you would surely think deluded or possibily worthy of mockery, such as believers in Ra, or Thor, or Zeus and Apollo.
As to needing religion to give one a sense of morality - Where do religious people get their morals? Which document is the correct code? The bible? The Koran? THey can't all be the unadulerated word of god? Basic principles such as treating others with love and kindness do not need to be rooted in some ancient mystical screed to be real.

You are right. I can't disprove religion. It is impossible to prove a negative. But you sure as hell can't (pun intended) prove any religious matter either. Clear case of prejudice against this girl because of her atheism. It must have been so hard for her to stand up to their taunts, threats and bullying, but she did it, and she'll be stronger for it. As for the Christians who behaved so poorly towards her, shame on them.
To me God is within me. If that God is a God of compassion and Love then I will be a good person. If that God is a God of greed and hate then I will be a bad person. To me God does not dwell somewhere outside my body and soul in some man made religion. Almost all religions consider themselves better than all other religions and so many times they will fight to prove it. I myself; was born and baptisted Roman Catholic ~ took communion (@ 5), reborn and baptised in a Baptist church (@13), then confirmed (@ 16) in an Episcopal church. All Christian; all separate in their ways & views, their beliefs are totally separate! That's why; today, I have no clear view of what religion I follow. To rephrase; I have No religion, just the desire to study them all as much to my own satisfaction!!

Statistically those with very high IQ%u2019s don%u2019t procreate like their less intelligent counterparts (having broods of kids). Put those two dynamics together and you get what you see in society.
