I'll watch this movie for the hammer it uses to make humour but not sure whether it'll sow any seeds of doubt in the minds of true jihadis!

10 to 1 odds on Uwe Boll getting a fatwa laid down!

I'd love to see all religious people take a critical look at the things their religious texts and leaders promise them. If they did there would be a new awaking and the temple would be in the Bahamas!

It's about damn time someone grew some balls and made some good quality dark humor. I love 9/11 jokes.

jews did WTC there's nothing funny about that.

A timeous reminder of how humour can be used to deal with extreme ideaologies, while at the same time aiding a painful healing process. The makers of this film deserve nothing but praise for their courage and insight. Incidentally, I wonder if you noticed the look on that gorgeous co-pilot's face when discussing "the virgins"? That barely-suppressed desire, his brown Levantine eyes, that proud aquiline nose, his hands, expressive yet powerful, and those wonderfully full lips. Vaaaghhhhhhhh! Brrvghhhh! Nnnnnnnhhhhhh! My, probably the best yet.

"hey im not greedy but what if it's 10?".... lol.

Mako my dear chap. I am so sorry you appear to be out of sorts today. I fear that on occasion I do become somewhat carried away and my desire to express my feelings can be a little tiresome. In deference to you and any other site users who share your views, I will cease to comment further until an appropriate period has elapsed. You may say that should be "forever", but I do reserve the right to make observations in the future.

This video clip was.......BRILLIANT!!!

I think the writers honed in on what a lot of people are saying these days: using dark humour to ask the same question we've always been asking for most of our lives when it comes to religion:

How do we know? Are we being sold a dud product? What the hell do we believe? WHO do we believe?

Now Stream, before you hit the roof, lemme point out that this was the whole crux of my problem with institutionalized religious ideology, and this can applied to muslims, christians, Jews, you name it. ANY and ALL organized institutions will breed their own form of a fanatical, extremist splinter wing (catholicism, judaism, protestantism....hell, even PETA, fer chrissakes!). This is why there is a vast difference between being "religious", and being "spiritual"; in being "religious", one is trapped into being in lock-step with the established doctrines of his/her particular "faith"; in being "spiritual" (in my own opinion), one is more likely to be in tune with his/her own core 'being', if you will (I know what I want to say, but it's actually quite difficult to put into words; anyone else wanna take a crack at it?). You can, of course, apply this to politics quite easily: you have "conservatives"...then you have "NEO-conservatives"; you have "liberals"....then you have "far-left liberals", etc.

Anyways....a HUGELY brilliant video!

I give it FIVE STARS out of FIVE.

Bravo.

c1,

You prefer an easy way out, with no ramifications for bad judgment?

Can there be " " without "-", yin without yang, hot without cold, male without female, etc.? Assuming there is a spiritual after-life, must it follow the same rules as our physical life?

I met a group recruiting for their version of religion/spirituality. Seems they believe in "Heaven or naught" meaning, if you made the grade, your soul enjoyed eternity in a peaceful place, but if you did not make the grade, your body died and no soul was produced. Its appeal was to the younger crowd.
canuck..."hugely brilliant"? Hah! Clever, entertaining, even humorous...right up the the stunningly and gratuitously insulting reach for final irony. Pathetic. Coulda dun betta. Didn't.

Why are you looking for perfection in the different faith systems. They are, after all, run by imperfect people. You seem focused on all the bad stuff, and not on anything good so many people derive from their respective and largely private religious lives. There are non-religious extremists too...religion doesn't correct personal defects any more than agnosticim, atheism, or sunflower worship, etc.

So like political views, criticism of the leadership is one thing....criticism of the followers is another. You fault the various sytems because of their various shortcomings...but the believers just keep on keeping on, thank God. They are the ones funding foreign relief, domestic relief, local relief...and not because they are distracted by the faults of some who gained front-line positions, but because they believe in the fundamental tenets of their beliefs, god-centered or not.

My thought is that believing one way and acting another is the universal sin. So long as you are acting according to your conscience, you're good. If that means you believe in killing people and raping children, society needs to take you out of contact with them...and maybe try to adjust your dementia...or making conclusive arrangements to assure you are no longer a threat to others. But, did he do what he believed he should? Social justice on one hand, eternal on the other.

Hitler might be in heaven (don't repeat that...besides, it's just an extreme example), but most assuredly Mother Theresa is. Or not? The point is that one must follow one's conscience...if it was well developed, you're Mother Theresa-like if you follow it. Poorly developed=hitler. Both stand a chance at heaven, if you believe as I do.

Mother Theresa is not in line for three ...or a hundred-three virgin males, I suspect. Maybe just a good meal and a good night's sleep. And maybe a make-over. Some time off. Hitler on the other hand, needs to work in coal mines, japanese fish factories, chernobyl, and maybe a couple sub-saharan relief projects, but this time on the people's side. Not hell, but repentive. 'course, that would presuppose his arrival on the bright side, versus the dark side...I know which way that betting would go.

I apologize for the Hitler/Mother Theresa citations. Talk about extremes. Could have used, y'know, Stalin and Margaret Thatcher, or Ghengis Kahn and Joan of Arc, or Britney Spears and Albert Einstein (going for extreme separation here, and getting more extreme as I go...OK, how about GWB and John Doe...how much more extreme separation can I cite...well, the Hitler thing was pretty far out.)

C-
Thanks for the clarifying. There are a few things needed to be noted here:
I have agreed with you before when you said as much. Religions call upon all their adherents to spirituality. Whether the adherents do, is another matter.
So, when you lump all those as religious into zealotry, you make a drastic mistake of stereotyping. If you call me religious, I am flattered. If you call me a zealot, I am saddened at your bigotry. (Threads such as these are not really fertile ground for establishing spirituality. But even spiritualists must have a source, a connection to something larger than themselves. Christianity, is First, a spiritual change and then when the Heart is changed, behavior will follow. Contrast that to some other prominant religions that do not count on a willing submission of the soul.)
I just read what Uwe Boll wrote (in Mako's post) and can only conclude he is not too bright. How sad that his gift (of irony, in the above vid) is in the hands of such a small minded individual.

Finally, I would suggest not throwing the baby out with the bath water. I know that organiized religion breeds all sorts of things (fanatics, etc)...just as you said. But it is not BECAUSE of organization that this happens. Organization is absolutely necessary. I believe (and I do not mean this as a slur) that many people who reflexively knock organized religion are using that as a crutch as to why they don't love by a set of values that can only come from a Higher Power. I also believe that many who gulp the kool aid of organized religion(whether that religion is Christianity or Darwinism), reflexively, do so for similar reasons...it is intellectually easy and provides a crutch for not having to challenge our own beliefs.

The human ability to rationalize is uncanny.
Streamy - interested to know your thoughts following your post.

Do you feel that it's possible to be spiritual without following a religion (organised or not)?

Obviously religiosity without spirituality is impossible right?

Boll may well be none too bright, and he's certainly pandering to a slavish audience, but calling him dumb is probably not the right term given that he's made a (almost certainly) crap film that will still make him a bucket load of cash!

His interview is certainly out there in terms of being morally challenging, but he's doing this in order to try and drive interest in the movie.

Surely he is asking some searching questions here?
M
I think it is possible to be spiritual without religiosity. However, those that I have met who want to use "spiritualism" as their religion seem to be rationalizing their own disdain for religion. The New Age movement was populated largely by people who wanted no Truth or Order, only spirituality that is defined by each person...out there in the ether, with no boundaries on behavior or no solid morality. Certainly not all spiritualists are like this.

Religiosity without spiritualism is empty creed. People who cannot think for themselves and must refer only to strictures of code find temselves very religious, but without heart. (This is Hollywood's routine portrayal of Christians...hard hearted and callous to anything that doesn't savvy with their rules.) Most people I know who are religious don't fit this strereotype; they are deeply spiritual.
Fair answer - I think you may have a point when you say "those that I have met who want to use "spiritualism" as their religion seem to be rationalizing their own disdain for religion", but I would suggest that perhaps it's *organised* religion and not religion per se that they have disdain for?

I guess many spiritualists would argue that some of the ten commandments are what would naturally come to ayone with decent moral upbringing:

Thou shalt not kill, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, covet thy neighbours wife, manservant / maid / ass / ox

I feel these are basic common sense tenets to live by and should not need an organised body other than family to instill surely?

The Qur'an also has virtually identical commandments to these which suggests to me that it's humanity that has created some basic rules for itself and not religion... religion has taken those basic rules to help it define itself.

Now have you thought seriously about how the Skvirrel faith could change your life? LOL

That was a JOKE - not a pop at you! :-)

I say chaps. I've just read a post suggesting that Mr Mako has an alias, and so it would seem. The mako to whom I responded earlier is not the original. I therefore take back my apology to this prankster and issue an unreserved one to the genuine Mr Mako, who as far as I am aware has never criticised me. I have to agree with the ersatz German humorist when he says such "aliases" are extremely annoying. Surely one of the great things about a forum such as this is that one can exchange views with one another on everything from politics to the joys of masturbation (my personal favourite) in a frank and adult manner?
I would welcome others opinions on this.

Sir Cedric - no problem at all!

To be fair to this vid - the clip we've seen is especially pertinent to the current month. However as is usual with many of these low brow comedic attempts by Hollywood, I'm assuming this will be the best part of the movie!

That said - the following is from an interview with Uwe Boll:

Now is the time for the world to see “POSTAL” and here are my reasons why:
After the September 11th attacks, our world went through some dramatic changes. We have wars and terror in Afghanistan, Israel, Lebanon, Iraq and various states in Africa. The USA and Europe are scared to loose the leadership of the planet to China and India. Muslim fanatics and fundamentalists are gaining enough power to destroy our security and freedom.

The American and European people are heavily swayed by the mass media that is supporting the USA strategy of resolving these threats through war. We have quickly developed an innate self-censorship in order to survive this crazed and fragile state of existence. People are now afraid to speak their mind for fear of repercussions. If Bin Laden is a crazed fanatic, mass murderer, are we to assume that George Bush is a wonderful leader? If Moslems are perceived as terrorists, then are all Christians and Jews doing the right thing?

The world is in need of a film that is tougher in it's humorous mockery of the globe than "SOUTH PARK". The audience is ready to approach this type of satire with live actors rather than cartoons. "POSTAL" will not accept any form of censorship.

Our present political situation is intolerable. We have deranged religious fanatics on one hand and lobbyists from the oil and weapon industries on the other hand. Both sides are actively working at destroying the planet. This world is slowly dying due to global warming and pollution caused by man’s corporate greed and stupidity. If intelligent people do not stop this madness, then our grandchildren will not experience life.

"POSTAL" will insult all cultures, religions, political groups and leaders. No one will be spared. The film is intended to provoke thought, laughter and open debate. Our world is out of balance and "POSTAL" will reflect just how fucked up we are.

I see myself as a member of the world community. I have no religious affiliation. Religion has often been a catalyst for the many crimes and wars throughout history. Religion allows people the opportunity to blame their actions on a higher source. We live in a world that is sensitive to people's religious beliefs. How ironic that non-religious groups fail to receive the same level of sensitivity from the establishment.

I agree with Salman Rushdie who said a few months ago in an interview something to the affect that we don't want to hurt your feelings because you are religious.… who thinks about the daily insults non-religious people are getting? How can the President of the United States think, that Adam and Eve were created by God, but Darwin is bullshit? How can they teach this in certain American states? This is an insult to everyone with an IQ over 100!

Apart from the firemen and rescuers of 911, how about the victims of the September 11th attacks that are now being labelled as heroes? I say that they were not heroes at all. They died in a terrorist attack. They were normal people and did nothing heroic but dying an unfortunate death.

*Mako comment - have WE made these innocent civilians martyrs?*

Since September 11th, more than ONE MILLION AFRICANS, JEWS and ARABS have died in terrorist's attacks, civil wars and wars. Their lives and deaths were not featured by the mass media. Does this mean that their lives had less value than the life of a NY stockbroker dying in the World Trade Centre?

It's time to wake up!
May "POSTAL" shock, stir, offend and entertain you!
Uwe Boll

PS BarnsleyFC... IF you have indeed been making this point then how come all the postings I see from you are only full of vitriol, paedophile jokes and self-admitted attempts to simply shock and come across as a dick?

PPS Chaz - whilst I can understand your distaste at Mr Pis - you have to admit that his scribings prior to...erm...release... are actually quite well written?

After reading mako's reply, I have this strange feeling of, all is lost, there's nothing we little people can do now, the end is near! (Feelings of paranoia set in) Let's all stock up with extra rations and water, clean our guns (or get some) load up on ammo, gas up the generator and watch nervously out the window at everyone and everything that goes by. Oh why did I have kids, they're all doomed!

Insulting people in America with an IQ over 100?

Unfortunately that would be a minority, with an average IQ of 97 in the US, and less than 45% of Americans being able to comprehend the evening news, it's easy to pull the wool over the eye's of the mass's.....obviously!
Mako I read and reread your post and agreed with it on certain points.

First, the stories that followed the wtc tragedy is as I heard it from people who were there. and there were several !

Under the wtc buildings there was located a rather large area filled with stores restaurants ,bars , city bank more then one subway platform and the path train to N,J .. ,ect. ect....at one time it would hold and cater to a thousand people easy.

Well after the second plane hit its target is when they started to evacuate the buildings and the stores below leaving only the firemen and cops with a few straggling civilians inside. And more then a few of these few civilians spoke of these cops and fire men going through the then vacated stores and the bank!

So were they heros also, i think not. were they bad men? In my opinion no!
To break it down if these men knew those buildings were going to collapse would they have gone in to doomed building and into an certain death?
I think not.
If you need to call them heros fine, but that means they were heros long before that day! And your definition of hero has to be revised.

In my opinion if one wants to see a hero try googling (Potomac jetliner crash Washington D.C) not sure of date? late 80's I believe?

And maybe, just maybe I'm a Hero... for eating whatever that leftover in the fridge was this morning.....
.

Mako - I agree with you 100%! I guess those steeped in religion cannot see how they converse AT the non-religious in their so pious tones. It's like they think anyone or anything not a member of their belief is just a soulless object like a tree, or a rock.

From this (extreme) arrogance comes the darkness that will doom the world.

I know with complete CERTAINTY that if there were a button to push that would destroy all human life, it will never be pushed by a atheist, or agnostic. Everyone should really think about why so many believe this is true. Has anyone else noticed how completely humorless zealots are?
