This is the kind of kid that my coach would always draft in our league - he had a thing for taking the players that nobody in their sane mind would want, and then teach them the game.
I've had my share of teammates that had one arm, were deaf, had nerve damage, and a kid almost like this with a severely inhibited leg. It doesn't surprise me to see people like this play the game well - because that's all that you need.

Ramble, I see your point. The runner did check himself a little bit, but at that age level, it's possible he might have done that anyway, no matter who was at home plate. All in all, the kid missing a leg held his own, and to his credit, he was ready to take the hit. And even if the runner did check himself for the sake of taking it easier on a kid with one leg, well, it shows good future character that he would consider someone else's well being above his own momentary glory. The world could use a little more of that thinking.
