Even though this video of O'Leilly is back from around '97 (or thereabouts), I just have one itsy-bitsy, teeny-tiny, oh-so-small-question for the nice, rational, level-headed, DELUDED, MISGUIDED, SIMPLETONS who've EVER come onto to these threads that defended this putz (as well as Faux News---where this screwball now works, along with Rove, North, Gerald, Fuhrman, Malkin, etc.) as a "newsman":

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and at least you can have a discussion with them. There is NO WAY ANY of his apologists can write this off as him "having a bad day....he's human"....etc. This NOT because he was that way THEN....rather, this is the way continues to be NOW. It is in his nature; it is apart of his FABRIC. It is HABITUAL. It is STEADY. For chrissakes, how can ANYONE look at this man then or now, and simply make excuses for him, saying "Oh, he was just in a bad mood, or had a bad day"??? Seban is TOTALLY correct; can anyone truly sit there, and not recall how many tiimes to THIS DAY, he's blown his stack at folks on his show who simply disagree with him? Or how many times he's called them names (gee, "pinhead" comes to mind)? Or how many times he's cut off their mics in a rage? Now...given all of that...how is ANYONE supposed to take this man seriously as either a "newsman"...or a "journalist"? I mean...COME ON. He's a disgrace to the profession. AND YOU KNOW IT.

As far as the rages towards guests goes.... do you honestly think that it's not part of the "show"? If not, you're deluded.

You can make excuses for this......"newsman"...all you want; fact of the matter is, is that David Letterman nailed him correctly, when Bill-O was a guest on his show. He said to him: "I think seventy-percent of what you say, is crap".
If I'm watching this guy on TV (which I have...many times; how the hell else would I have grounds to critique him?) and it's in the middle of February and he says (for example) "It's snowing outside".....I will NOT believe it a sinle WORD of it, until I actually go to my window, open the draps and see for myself.
He indulges in hyperbole; makes issues out of either nothing, or something insignificant; outright fabricates; distorts history; treats people like garbage who disagree with him or whom HE feels are incompetent (like in this video, and like he STILL does); habitually displays a one-sided zeal in support of his personal beliefs....and on and on. Do you realize I can cut-and-paste for you examples all damn day long, proving what a fool this "newsman" is? And what will YOU say or do then? Will you still sit there, and make excuses for him? Will you still be apologetic for him? Will you STILL continue to regard him as showing "good professionalism", as you stated above? I am certainly not a Bill O fan, but I can empathize with his exasperation when working with less than competent operators. If you have ever read for a TV show, you would certainly understand.
You know filmguy, i think the comments above are not ALL about this particular video.. I even think most of them are about O'Reilly in general. And i think it's then fair to conclude: he is an asshole regardless of that ridiculously pointless burst of wrath.

Yes yes I do see it.. but I also see some differences.
For one, I think that canuck acts like that to tease people, I've seen his comments on older videos and they were very reasonable and all, but he was treated like shit by some guys anyway. btw the comment you quoted was making a good point.
Secondly I think that what canuck says usually makes sense, (you know, apart from the insults which i agree could be avoided), whereas O'Reilly is almost always wrong. (i say almost because i don't know everything he said so there might be something true in the lot.)
Thirdly and most importantly: canuck doesn't have any responsibility towards millions of small-minded viewers who might not realize that the show he's presenting doesn't take place in the real world.
