Translation: Look at the soothing display and bring yourself to a place free from guilt and conscience. Marvel at our gigantic venue funded by a sudden increase in global wealth, ignore our nation's total disregard for the enviroment as we ignore the rest of the planet's fight to preserve it. Continue to purchase our inferior products for we will not be offended when you curse us as you throw them out. Please remain smiling for the hope and unity the Olimpics bring to the planet may distract you from the forshadowed monster we will become.

Love the picture. Looks awesome.

would you be happier if we canadians take over your country. remember we have all the natural gas, oil and fresh water yuo need . we could sell our water at 20 cents a litre.
I don't chink so!
Yes I would prefer Canada ten trillion zillion infinity times to China.

Bush sold out America, gave China the jobs, now they're a superpower and they're crazy as hell as far as tyranny and totalitarianism goes.

I think of all the homes that were torn down to build the stadium.
I think of the slave labor to build the stadium
I think of all the people imprisoned for questioning the Chinese Government.
Thank you... fuck China.
I think of all the lead that was used for the chinese makeup on the chinese performers.
I think of all the performers who will be jailed once the Chinese Government reviews the opening ceremony video tape looking for performers who made a mistake.
This is one of the reasons I don't like and don't trust the Chinese.

Does anyone really give a flying fuck about the olympics? I fucken dont!

Do I detect just a smidgeon of anti-Chinese feeling among my fellow Glumberters?
I think you are a bit out of touch when you say Chinese goods are inferior. Inferior to what? - the mighty British car industry, the stunningly successful US financial services sector?
Disliking people simply because they are small with oddly shaped eyes is strange.
Time to accept it's their time now and get over it.

Don't they eat dogs and puppies? Don't they still drown their newborn girls?
Yeah...China...I'd live there....suckas
they should have dramatized tanks rolling through the square and crushing people. that would've been cool
1 year ago
.....And I suppose when the United States next hosts the Olympics, the opening ceremony should depict native peoples being slaughtered, foreign countries being invaded for their natural resources, Mafia-run cities and hugely obese citizens?

China has done horrible things, no doubt. But so has America. We decimated a people when we arrived. We had slaves. When we abolished slavery we treated them as though they weren't humans. Now we keep them in projects and stay away from them. After Pearl Harbor we moved the Japanese (American citizens) into camps. We torture people in the name of democracy.

If you're going to condemn China because of it's government, you damn well better do the same to America.
Well, the world is a big scary, place and the U.S. has been and is still guilty of wrong-doings and .. Yeah, we can go back in history and consider hundreds of horrible actions the U.S and other countries have done to others. I'm talking about NOW, I'm not sure about YOU but I live in 2008, and China is living in 1808 when it comes to human rights.
I don't disagree about China's abuses. But I'd love to ask what any of the "detainees" (not prisoners, we're just detaining them for 8 years) we have would say about America's human rights abuses.

Regardless, my point is that we can't condemn the people of an entire nation because of it's government.
The "detainees" are minute compared to the amount of Chinese civilians that are detained and imprisoned on a daily basis.

I watched this whole thing on line. It beats any stupid Superbowl halftime show easy.

spend enough money youll always get an impressive show. hitler did it in 1936 and it was fucking awesome but his atheletes were shit and he invaded europe which made him unpopular. dont be fooled by the chinese otr anyone else who tries to impress you with smoke and mirrors.
london will probably have a guy in a vest running round in circles shouting we are the best. they wont have fireworks. they are shit in england.

"Put, This is Chang. We've got a really big show going on in 24 hrs."
" Chang, this is Put, we'll start the bombing in 24 hrs, thanks"

The pure, simple fact is that this is China's 'coming of age' parade to the world

They deal in dynasties, the west deals in lifetimes

The scale and scope of work put in to make these games the greatest (for China) is awesome

Most of the posters demeaning their efforts are probably under 20 years of age and based in the US

GROW THE FUCK UP AND ACCEPT YOU'RE PLACE IN THE WORLD

...YOU'RE PLACED 2ND...

Next time your country needs help, ask China please.
We have spend trillions of our tax dollars on trying to help other country's in need.

Would that be the kind of help Bush is giving Iraq? Nice help.

By the way, before you start running your little mouth off about how generous the US is, do check the overseas development figures for aid on page two of the attached link

http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/27/55/40381862.pdf

Yes the US provided $21bn in aid in 2007, but Europe provided over TWICE THIS amount

Also look at the percentage of GNI that goes towards overseas economic development and you will see the US is basically the least generous of all the developed countries listed. Of course the US economy is still very large so this goes some way to accounting for the low figure, but then so too is Germany's and their figure is twice as high as the US

You are right, China WILL be asked for greater help, and will probably provide it now its place on the world stage is effectively ensured.

Re-check your definition of 'generous'

Depends on how you look at it mako
if you look at pysical dollars given, then ya U.S. gives more than any other country.
You want to go by percents, you can get what ever outcome you want.
Anyhow...I all for taking the dollars home.....

"but Europe provided over TWICE THIS amount "

Europe is a continent.
