because being an 'artist' was never an affluent profession, especially when hacks like kid rock can make money marketing the swill they like to call 'music'.
More artists should adopt what radiohead did with a pay what you want and download direct to your computer (without DRM). They could even have a minimum 5$ charge but anything over that is your choice. This would be a completely reasonable price and I'm sure the artist would still be rolling in money by the end of the first week of sales.
I'm surprised at the casual attitude that people have for stealing digital property, for the very reason he states.
Not just music, but software, and not just software from Microsoft and Oracle, but small companies driven out of business due entirely to this kind of larceny.
This is the reason software innovation has mostly ceased, and only the giants produce the same crap year after year at twice the cost.
Sarcasm is stating the opposite of an intended meaning especially in order to sneeringly, slyly, jest or mock a person, situation or thing. It is strongly associated with irony, with some definitions classifying it as a type of verbal irony intended to insult or wound. Sarcasm can also be used in a humorous or jesting way depending on the intent of the person speaking.
Seriously, you people are pissed? c'mon, he's clearly making a point through sarcasm. Get off your high horses, stop judging the man, and enjoy the freaking humor. This man may not be the utmost in morality or the king of staight laced, but who freaking cares??? Don't like him? Don't listen to him. Why hate him? And ow do we really know all this talk, actions, etc aren't just a freaking act? Publicity sells people!!! Respect the man for the genious he is---in marketing and music! If you don't like his music at least repect that he writes it himself, canplay just about any freaking instrument, and can sink his heart out.
Musicians can't make the same amount of money selling albums as their predecessors obviously, this is why you can't see a bigger name live for less than $100. P.S. I have an extra ticket for Kid Rock in Toronto, Aug 25. Good seat, just an error in the on-line ordering, anyone interested...cheap!
