There's a part in this movie, where Hitler is in his bunker, and gets real pissed off with his generals.
He screams at them in a rage (in German, with english subtitles), "I should have did what Stalin did with HIS generals...and had all of you fucking liars EXECUTED!!!"
The choir goes like "Adolf you nazi dick surrender" and he answers that he wont and rants on and on about nobody around him being competent, the allied bombers being a nuisance and if anyone would listen to him the victory could not be far.
This came out at about the same time as the "Downfall" movie. Walter Moers, the comic artist, is a really good one, he does everything from great children stories (books, comics, and animations) to political satire (though unfortunately very few of that).
I too haf seen zis "Downfall". Ze Swiss actor Bruno Ganz vos very good! It vos kvite eerie seeing how he captured ze mannerisms, but I sink he vent ein bit over ze top on ze rages.

chuck, Mao did not send troops and organize concentration camps to kill people, in his case it was mostly incompetence that caused a famine which killed some 40 million people. The politicial killing he ordered could be counted as "in line with such regimes".
Even the Russian gulags had a different quality than the German concentration camps. The gulags just did not provide properly for the people there, so many did perish.
The thing abouth the German concentration camps was that they were highly organized, efficient, industrial killing systems. Everyone who went in was registered and his data properly filed (in part thanks to the support of the German branch of IBM). There was not such a thing as killing by accident or willful neglect, it was planned and exectued like large scale industrial production. No emotion on behalf of the executioners in the whole process, everything according to orders.
This is what makes the 3rd Reich so chillingly different from most other atrocities.
