It's difficult to view this through a '2008 eyes/mindset', and it just shows you how things, people and attitudes have evolved over the years.

Shit, I can still remember when I was a kid, it was okay for adults to smoke in hospitals! Even the goddamn doctor would come onto the floor, hacking and coughing and wheezing, with a coffin-nail hanging outta his mug. Also, anyone around here remember "Popeye Cigarettes"? Slender pieces of white candy, with a red-coloured 'butt' on one end? That's been gone for years (or they've changed it, at least). Or how about those late-night talk shows of yesteryear? All the guests did....what? Yep. Smoked! Right there, on the air! (Dean Martin as a guest on the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson sticks out in my mind, for some reason).

And just last night on the news, I heard the there's a public beach out in B.C. that's aiming to be the first one in North America to ban smoking on public beaches! Out in the open!
