It's a metaphor for life in general. You know it might be difficult, and if you approach it without resolve, you might lose your grip and just fall on your butt, and life goes on no matter what, drawing you forward to a uncertain future.
You know, I really was expecting him to come down the other side for some reason. Now THAT would be funny.
I'm guessing what happened here is that he saw Technoviking standing at the top of the escalator and he was startled. I'm sure Technoviking apprehended him and scolded him once he reached the top...

my daddy went on a escalator once in Virginia City. he got his rifle stuck in the stair and it went off. fuck, you should have seen security.
i just rememberd. my daddy was on a elevator twice.second time was in washington when he was at a welfare protest. he tried to get past a congressman or something and got into a fight with him. he won but he got arrested cos he was poor.
my daddy tried to sue the goverment once but they won. it was about coyotes killing our chickens but they said he should just fix the fence. the court case nearly killed him and we had to feed him soup for a while.
Not funny - saw this on the news. Dude had a heart attack and was eventually caught in the escalator and died. If you look closely you can see the blood stains on the stairs as they come around
Got ground to meat when he was sucked through the tiny little grooves at the top of the escalator. I think I saw a piece of his head come back through at the 1 second mark.

I wouldn't be surprised if that video won some money on America's Funniest Viideos. I hope he is all right. That had to hurt. I shouldn't tell you this, but I will. I fell off a treadmill several years ago. That really hurt. Especially since I landed on the treadmill and it tore up my knee before someone hit the stop button.
