apparently there's a whole lot of people who have this remarkable but useless skill. there is however one guy from england (they call him the brain man)who has the ability to not just memorized pi but actually progressively calculate it.... some school in england ( i think it was cambridge) held a competition for pi memorization .... people like this chick showed up and did it to say 500 or 1000 places .... they stopped the brainman after 5 hours ... with no mistakes ..... .... there's a fascinating short documentary film about him (not the utube version) but i don't know how to get it ... he also speaks 11 languages.... i don't know what his name is and i'm not gonna look it up ..... no ! i shall seize the day and go forth and play golf !...

I do wonder where we'd be at this time if McCain had won. Say whatever you will, Obama has moved quickly and emphatically in his brief time in office. That immediately separates him from so many of his predecessors.
But more importantly, has he chosen the "right" path to recovery...that remains to be seen.

You are one of the more educational posters here, perhaps, on the basis of consistency, the best in that category. Thanks for your alerts, and your reminders that this site can be elevated by a single thoughtful post, a factor the Glumbert managers must appreciate - their adding little or nothing to the value of this process.
OK, impressive if accurate. How do we know? Who has the time to check this. Why do this in the first place. Yes, PI needs to be known, but speed PI? It was done because it could be done. Our species likes to push the envelope that way!
