It is impossible to NOT FEEL sorry for this dolfins.
Japan is showing itself to the world as a nation that is completely out of touch with who they are and their surroundings. By pushing for a resuption to commercial whaling (a battle that was fought out decades ago!) and massacring dolphins as illustrated here in this video, they are displaying the kind of maddness that we are meant to be questioning and fighting against in these crucial times. And the point they are missing is that it is not only inhuman and unnecessary but it is doing more damage to the human species and our own evolution than they could possibly imagine. The time to act is now (boycott, lobby, spread awareness, whatever you can do all helps)- we owe it to ourselves, our oceans and all those highly intelligent beings we cant seem to respect and appreciate.
Next time you purchase a product from all those advanced techno/yet still poor countrys instead of your own, remember the dolphins.....and remember also' all that money is NOT going into Education Not Going into The Restoration of the enviroment Not going to aid the poorest of their own country...It is going into casinos and hotels....Spend your hard earned dollars at home. I dont care what people eat for example the japanese eat dolphins and in my case thats okay. Killing them the way they do is not respectful to the Dolphins. Dolphins are used for military purposes they help them find mines for rescuing people. They were also used in the Veitnam War. Its horrible to see how they are treating such wonderful and very helpful animals. I mean you wanna eat them go ahead but killing them the way they do is inhuman. Besides Japan doing this to them and eating them as food Faroe Islands as well kills them to. The largest number of dolphins are hunted using this method in Japan, it also takes place in Solomon Islands, and Peru, Hawaiiand Taiwan. So you can't blame this all on the Japanese. Thousands of dolphins are killed each year. Their is no need to treat these creatures like this. Its repulsive and everyone can say whatever they want but no one will ever change my opinion on this.

It's is truly a crime to perform such attrocity against creatures as intelligent as Dolphins. Surely someone with some political clout has viewed this film? What good is it to buy Dolphin safe tuna if humans are killing them off to eat them. In the film it say their meat is being passed off as whale meat. I say now the people who purchase the products know if they have watched this film. It has been here for some months now and I hope it continues to be spread around to make more people aware of what is going on.

The images above while horrific did not suprise me. It is not right to pass judgement on what different cultures choose to eat. Where we need to step in is the unacceptable methods and can easily be said barbaric ways of processing the dolphins. What needs to be remembered is not all cultures understand dolphins as mamals many see them simply as fish. in our culture fish are caught in the same manner and it is a common practice by everyday fishers to do such things as slit throats of fish to "bleed" them and preserve the flesh quality. the fact dolphins are mammals makes this world wide fishing technique barbaric as dolphins can survive a great deal of time out of water. A fish out of water will die quickly due to lack of oxygen- not the case for the dolphins. The actions are not correct and cruelty to animals no matter what the animal should not be tolerated throuhg out the world but people should not pass judgement on a nations culture of choice of food if the practices are humane, sustainable and accountable. most of the posts I have read focus on poor nobal dolphin, the issue should be the practice of cruelty and unsustainable fishing of ANY species.

It may be true but every animal has that propensity including cats, monkeys and so on... But even this behaviour may be necessary to a degree to the survival of that species. I was refering to nature of dolphins that is not understandable, dolphins are not as noble as people believe. if you look into it you will find that dolphins like humans are one of the few species in the world that actually rape. it goes as far to be pods of young male dolphins that will pack rape a female dolphin which is left pretty much torn apart and will usually die.

If you are going to kill an animal for any reason, please make it humane, ie. as quick and painless as possible - emphasis on QUICK. That crazy argument about killing insects is nonsense in that regard, because it is instant death in almost every case where the express goal is to kill the bug.
I wonder how they butcher cows here in the states? Is it a quick death? I don't eat meat because I don't have a taste for it, but I know that chickens are killed quickly. They may not live sanitarily in some establishments, but the fact is that in the butchering that I am knowledgeable in, getting your head cut off is at the top of the quick death list. Only think easier would be if you were sleeping when it happened.
The fact remains, in my mind, that eating meat is not morally wrong. Being irresponsible and cruel to animals is. Does anybody ever notice that humans are the only animal at the top of the food chain that doesn't have a controlled population, that I know of? There is never overpopulation in nature when it is left alone. Dolphin populations get out of control when there are enough Orcas to eat them, and if Orcas weren't being whaled, I don't think they would tend toward overpopulation. What about bears, wolves, lions, or sharks? When they reproduce too much, they exhaust the food supply and die off, which lets the food supply boom again. It's all a healthy cycle that people really don't balance well.
I know I ramble a lot, but marinerights is correct in pointing out that what we need is to MANAGE our natural resources, not squander OR ignore them. Yes, I believe that dolphin meat is not healthy and so should not be eaten, but that is MY PERSONAL opinion on this. I also believe that slitting an animal's throat and letting it die painfully over the course of several minutes is WRONG, and unlike my previous statement, I believe this is TRUTH, not opinion. Remember that culture and perception define most of what we find acceptable or taboo, but some things transcend those factors.

I have to agree completely with Shyfire guy! It does not matter what is written or in which form, for there is one constant here whatever is said ugly or intellectually is because we all feel (at least we who are human) that this is very very wrong. All I can say is I was not aware of this happening. For all I knew Dolphins are protected and were not slaughtered like this. I knew that Whales were still being killed in this manner but not Dolphins. I love them both and don't think that anyone of them should be mistreated in this manner. I truely enjoy hunting and fishing. I grew up doing it and was taught from the beginning to never waste, suffer or disrespect what I killed or took. I hunt and fish for meat to eat. Never because I enjoyed killing. I have been hunting for 15 years now and still to this day I get a knot in my throat when I kill an animal. But never have I seen such a horrific act of murder. I work as a firefighter and the most I can do to help right now is to sign a petition. I dont have the time to protest and do more. I too feel that my signature will be a name added to the garbage. Ive signed before, donated a few extra bucks laying around. Ive never seen anything happen from the petitions Ive signed in the past. I watched this video once.... about a month ago. I had to force myself to watch it, and knew that I had to. I watched all the way through but struggle to watch it again.

We could all go off on a tangent and refer to tons of other issues ie) raping of dolphins within packs, japanese culture, slaughtering of cows....but for now the best thing to do is focus on the video's message. Doing this by refusing to purchase or eat the meat is a good start. It really isn't a large seller where I am from (Canada), but I'm sure it is other places. I hope others in these places are made aware and do the same.
just a note on the cow situation---in fact they are slaughtered, but in an entirely different manner than most might think. It is quick and deliberate. There is absolutely no time for pain. I am only talking from a meat packing plant objective. I come from a farm and have also experienced pig and chicken slaughter and again, it is as quick as possible. These bred animals are not provoked and scared to death on purpose like those dolphins. In fact the most frightening time for most of the pork and beef animals is the ride in the trailer on the way to the plant in the enclosed areas for such a long time.
anyway, there is a definite difference between the methods. There is always a better way for the Japan gov't to continue to "fish for food". Lets hope they get there soon!!
No, not at all Gini (not in vain).... I have a connection to dolphins (a feeling) to the point that I feel dolphins deserve all the protection and respect that we can give. They have such a human like connection that we are the ones handed the responsibilty to protect them as well as all creatures below us. We have a responsibilty to protect ourselves from such irresponsible judegement in which these Fisherman have clearly dismissed themselves from. The main point that I was making from not eating or contributing to eating their meat is.... its wrong for me, I feel close to dolphins (mentally). I feel that they undertand us and try and coincide with us in harmony and I feel that this would be wrong to indulge in this brutality, so no, it is not in vain. I am really happy to know there are people viewing this forum that happen an open and understanding mind on whats going.
I have seen plenty of videos where cows and pigs are killed in the same way as these dolphins: cutting the throat while bleeding to death. That's great that you have your ideas of farm animals being killed gently, but that's not reality. There are places that kill their animals more humanely than others, but how can you look at a single dolphin-killing video and think that every dolhin is killed that way? If you can believe that beef cows are given a lethal injection or whatever humane death you -think- they're getting then go ahead and believe the same about the dolphins.
I never said that beef cows or pigs were being killed humanely. If you read my prior comments you'll see that I stated that I was not ignorant to the ways these animals are killed. But the reality as you put it is that beef cows are that.... for beef. They are breed for it. They are not for the most part round up and tortured, seperated from their families, hoisted out and cut up. Ive worked on a beef ranch, and the way that we butchered was quick. We were one of a few that would us caps and then cut the troat to bleed out. I never lasted, I couldnt take it. But to the defense of the dolphins.... where else is dolphin legal to kill and what knowledge do you have of the other ways they are being killed? Sad thing is that animals are being killed in an unreasonable fasion all around the world. We all would like to see an end to the ways.... the brutal ways its being done, and we all have our ideas but really.... you cant compare BEEF COWS to FREE DOLPHINS. I highlight BEEF, because beef is pseunonymous with raising for food. And its what you wrote.

This is indeed a very heart breaking video to witness. but what im more concern is the fact that there are so many responses that are racially directed. does those racial remarks solve anything, do you think it was the director's intention to create racial tension? is racial issue any less than a problem as killing dolphines? those of you who have made angry racial remarks are no better than those who kills the dolphines. just because we live in a different environment and have a different set of beliefs, does that make us better than other people? what right do we have to say that what others are doing is wrong? if we were brought up as a child in those environment, and the sight of dead dolpines becomes second nature to us, will we still be posting comments on this place? I agree a lot with your posting. Racial comments and racism are a leading issue in the world today, and should never be tolerated. We are quick to point fingers when there are other races involved.
On the other hand... not one person in this world should be more tolerant and understanding to this group or groups conducting this slaughter, regardless of their race, their beliefs, laws, and how they grew up. And why do people have to become activists to make a change, and critsized for voicing themselves. I hate that activists critisize people for not doing anything when its usually part of their careers. I've managed to read a couple of the comments, and just wanted to say. It doesn't matter whether it's dolphins, chickens, children, men / women, etc. it's entirely inhumane to slaughter. This videoclip is just as bad as "Schindler's list", if you havent watch it, please do yourself a favour. There is nothing that can be worst than to be led to be slaughtered, imagine.............if it had to be you and your family. Dolphins, despite on their nature for raping, etc. are very intelligent mammals, and as they said on the video, they also don't leave their relatives/family just like so many other animals, and I hope us as humans will also do, so if that's part of their behaviour, then they must have feelings in some or other way as well. As to killing them for the purpose of selling them, why? Shark and dolphin meat are only for the rich people, so 3/4 of the time, the average Joe won't even buy it. Did you know, that they cut the shark fins off, which is dried and shipped to Japan, only to be cut into very thin slices, and only a little bit gets put into a soup, served in restaurants. WHY? We must get a law throughout the world to restrict us as humans to kill and hunt certain animals period! Currently in South Africa wild farms are prohibited from hunting lions on these farms, cause that's just as bad, lions get put into a den, and the hunter gets to aim, shoot, shoot and shoot again, and only then does the animal die. What kind of race are we? to think this is normal, this is fine? We catch fish, yes, yellowtail, snoek, etc. that has been done from ancient, just like we breed cattle for redmeat. But to hunt creatures, that actually classify as mammals, that serves no defnite purpose after death, except to have yet another fancy dish? What the hell.
Personally do not have anything again any nationallity, but somewhere the line has to be drawn on the Japanese. Did you know that they actually try to invent all new different dishes, for e.g. they fry fetuses, locusts, sexual organs.................no I ask you? Is this okay? Is this human beings?

I'll end my comments with this one, and now understand why Marinerights did. Im not a retired fireman. I am still an active fireman. I work 2 days in a row and 4 days off. I fish a lot and hunt a lot. I love what I do and believe its the greatest job in the world. I interact with more people and see people at their worse and am able to understand people more than the average person. What have I done except post this site, sign the petition and donate money to humane rights for animals and a monthly amount taken from each of my paychecks ($20.00 USD a month) to help fight cancer. Nothing. I dont have the time to donate much more than this. In my off days from work, I fly helicopters for a medical transport company in Emergency and Donor transfer. I m rebuilding my house, paying bills and running into problems that everyone deals with everyday. I post my feelings on here about the dolphins because I too feel distaste for it. Im not a lobbist. Someone say to right your Senator for help. Ive done that for Harbor Seals in Canada....., in 2005. Last year was one of the largest killings if Im correct. Yes, it may take time, and I am greatful for the people that are out there fighting for them, but it is a losing battle for me. I'll try and refrain from continuing this bar scene.

I have taken the time to sit and read everyone's post, viewed their animal cruelity videos and all I can say is, all the anger and emotions that have been posted in to context shows exactly how much people through out our planet have been affected by this and many other animal cruelity videos. If we as human beings on this earth can ban together instead of arguing with each other, can put as much effort into a fight against these issues we just might be able to make a difference. I too have a hard time believing that these electronic petitions actually get sent or even acknowledged, but it is better than sitting back and just watching then to try to make a humanly effort to express our feelings we havefor these precious animals.

Having just moved to Japan I was sent this dolphin movie and for more than a week I postponed watching it. It was worse than I feared.. I'm sitting with this sick feeling in my stomach and a sting in my eyes.. I just can't ever watch it again. What I will try to do is find a way to help stop the problem. There is an English Magazine in Tokyo called Metropolis that I will write to and see if we can print an article for awareness but I need to do some research first to know more about the situation. Some of the comments posted on here are a little distrubing I have to say, though I think the more disturbrd they turned out to be they were looking for a reaction from someone and really didn't affect me. The one I do have to say disturbed me the most was the self proclaimed marine rights person. For someone to title themselves that and then start not only bashing and slandering people's feelings and thoughts on the issue and how they feel about dolphins but to start slandering and bashing dolphins and their human nature is appalling to me.
Here it is...all animals RAPE, it dosen't make it right, but it is a fact of life. I really don't believe we were put on this earth to judge wild animals and their mating habits (you don't really expect them to treat their mate to a candlelite dinner before hand do you) and to dwell on such a nurotic issue instead of the issue at hand is insane. And for someone t claim they have incased all this knowledge regarding dolphins and their behavor you sure do sound ignorant and uneducated to me. It has been a known fact through out history that dolphins were angels of the sea, there have been numerous stories from early explorers, fisherman, sailors and swimmers that dolphins have, protected, saved, and lead humans to safety. They are even trained to serve in the U.S. military. Nothing one on this earth is perfect but we all have something (well almost all) were given something to contribute to this earth.
My next comment, concern and question is this.....latelyall of a sudden there has been a huge celebrity and political uproar in regards to global warming and how if nothing is done to stp the effects of our abuse to this planet we pretty much will all die in some manner or drown depending on where you live. Well isn't our earth balanced on a system that needs plants, soil, water, sunlight, air and animals to make this world go round? Why dont they add those ingridents to the saving the earth band wagon?
one last thing, mister shy fireman, I think you had the most realistic, respectable, heart filled comments regarding animal cruelity and you shouldn't feed into the drama that people thrive on, life is obviously too short.

How can you possibly ONLY get mad at the japanese for doing this. What they are doing is no different than any other country fishing and/or hunting. Getting mad at the for killing dolphins and not getting mad at everybody else for hunting and fishing is having a double standard. Wow! I have never seen a video with so many comments! This video made me cry. How sad that something like this is going on. Dolphins are some of the most intelligent animals in the world, as are cows and pigs and chickens. How would the Japanese feel if they were lured into cages, separated from their families, dragged thru the street by the back of a truck and then slaughtered? How horrible to do something like this to another living thing. It's one thing to kill an animal for food, but to do it in such a horrific manner is unbelievable. I don't eat meat or animal prodcuts. We can never know for sure if the animals that produce the products we eat are beaing treated well or not, so I just choose not to eat them. If nothing gets done about this in this lifetime, I believe that those that treat animals badly will burn in hell.

We are now consciouss and so know which food that out body need and we take it, AS WELL its genetically acustomded to after generation and generations of intake.

japan may be one of the world's fastest growing country, but they have no sense of remorse!! 1st, what they did in the Nanjing massacre was despicable. then after WWII they changed their history textbooks so that their younger generations would think that japan had done a honourable job in WWII. then all kinds of stupid acts start to come, like hunting for whales, and now, DOLPHINS!! for god's sake, both animals are mammals! we are mammals too!! if i had the rights, i would capture them one by one and drag them by a truck, then i would slash them on the throat to let them suffocate, JUST LIKE WHAT THEY DID TO THE DOLPHINS!! Understand not everyone lives in the same shoes as you. Fishing, for these men, is their only job and way of life. It was probably passed down from generation to generation and they're just doing what they've grown to do for their own career. If you do the same thing regularily, you get used to it. They are delicious have you ever eaten dolphin? How else should we catch them with butterfly nets? Then what do we use ether on a rag and gently put them to sleep before we chop them up into tiny tasty morsels?

Some might not like it we cannot call any kind of killing in anyway humane but we do our best to ensure that the animal is not an Intelligent being with emotions or possible more or equal than human conscousness so we take its life that was chosen from selective breeding with the knowlodge that the animal did no suffer in any way.
In Islamic beliefs you may not eat any animal that has not been prayed to and blessed before the time has come for it to pass on.
We can say oh this animal oh but what about this animal, Hey people who are vegetarian! Did you know that plants are organic life forms and have proven to scream in extremely low pitch when cut, unhearable to the human ear, except for with the use of sonic equipment.
In south america to my knowledge at least i mean it could be in north just as well, they actually beg for forgivness before they cut a plant to ensure them that one day their bodies will be food for our beloved earth and thus
pay back them.
This also shows that all organic lifeforms do have senses but are not at all the same in level of consciousness which does play a big difference, because a creature so beautiful and so ancient should be respected much more and not be treated in this way nor touched at all.
I mean people, the ocean has been here since beginning of time, we cannot even compare our time here to theirs. They were when we were created or evolved. Or Made depending on your beliefs.
And they will be here after we are gone also, even if we blow up the entireworld, they will go on.
We have to think about this, we are not the owner of this planet, we are habitants and very new compared to other creatures.
Have anybody heard the word symbiosis, some animal have evolved to grow in masses because they have been hunted by other animal for millenias.
In other words if the animals would stop hunting the lesser powerful ones they would overflow an entire region and eventually die because or overpopulation which leads to lack of food for all of them.
We also have animals that have evolved to suit us in order to ensure thei survival , they live in symbiosis with us. And after we hit the top of the food chain we simply chose the animal from generation of habit to use as source of food.
And I guarantee that the hunter gatherers did not haver this animal in their diet.
We are now consciouss and so know which food that out body need and we take it, AS WELL its genetically acustomded to after generation and generations of intake.
Please try to understand that we do not need to go down in history as the one race who tried to swallow the earth.
As I watch this video, like many others, I felt anger brewing within me as dolphins are known to be helpful creatures. But the key reason why it affect me so much was due to my ignorance, not knowing previously that dolphin was targetted as a food source.
But no matter how repulsive I feel at that moment, I felt worst after reading through the comments. The slaughtering of the Japanese had just began. Many posters here dont seems to understand that cultures across the world is different. Whatever protocol or practice in one country might not be valid in another. But this is a different issue altogether, so I aint going into details in this part.
Cruelty is never right, I agree with those that wrote about this here. I saw the dolphins' throat being cut up and left to suffocate in this video. Yes it takes a heart of stone for me to perform that act if I am that fisherman. But I am thinking, what should I do? Leave the dolphin alone on the wet road and wait for it to suffocate all by itself? What I am trying to say is, that act of "helping" the dolphin to die faster may be better then dragging on its agony. Afterall they are hunted as food, I dont think they have a chance to live anyway. Some may still feel sick about this, but the next time you decide to go fishing for leisure, you may want to watch how the fish die due to suffocation in the carrier net as u walk happily home with your big catch. Do not get me wrong, I love dolphins. But that doesnt mean I can make blind accusation on another human being.
For this issue, I agree with those to let their government know about it and let them take actions to reduce the pain the dolphins have to go through upon captured.

I would like to respond to this video and comments left here by many viewers from the perspective of a Japanese who lived in Japan for over 15 years.
First of all, I have to admit that the scenes from this "documentary" is very gruesome and disheartening to see the dolphins hunted and slaughtered in the manner depicted. Dolphins are amiable creatures and we feel a certain "attachment" to them. As much as I hate to see it, the dolphins are hunted as a food source here and the killing is no different than any other slaughter houses all around the world. I find cows and pigs to be amicable and benign and see no reason dolphins should be favored over them. Unless you're a vegetarian (which I am not also) you are as guilty as those who bought these dolphin meat.
Secondly, there are documented dolphin hunt in Japan which dates back to Edo-era (anytime around 300-500 years ago). The practice of slitting the throat, which some of the comments called "torture" is called "chinuki" (or blood removal) and it is commonly done in fisheries to prevent the blood from solidifying inside and meat become inedible. However, I understand it is sickening to see the dolphins convulsing to death.
A quick research showed one of the reasons for hunting dolphins was because dolphins were depleting the local fish stock. In turn, to counter that they hunted the dolphins (although there seemed to be some err in this reasoning).
Lastly, as zamp and Musashi commented, I too have never seen dolphin meat sold at any supermarket I've been to in Japan. My guess is that it is sold in certain regional markets. But I do wish they will find some other humane methods.
On the side note to those who "love" dolphins and frequent to places like Sea World, how do you think those dolphins ended up there and trained to put on shows and swim with humans. I think that's more of a torture.

This is the saddest and most mindless cruelty against life I've ever witnessed. I still have tears in my eyes. My heart aches and goes out for these beautiful helpless dolphins. They are intelligent beings and were clearly terrified and then were butchered in a cold, inhumane fashion for profit. This is literally "shooting fish in a barrel" in its extreme.
How can we help? We should all take action to forward this horribly graphic video to seafood processing plants, supermarket chains, and restaurants who sell dolphin meat everywhere. Also to wildlife, oceanic, environmental, conservation, and humane organizations here and abroad. They can post this info to their websites and have an online petition to send to government officials and even to Japanese officials. The public needs to be educated so they do not ever buy products containing dolphin, porpoise, or whale meat.
Perhaps even local food critics can include a brief summary paragraph and this link in their restaurant guides so people will be made aware to what they might be contributing. We, at least in the West, think of dolphins as intelligent, joyful, playful, and gentle creatures. I can guarantee you most people will not ever order any dishes containing dolphin/porpoise/whale products after seeing this bloody slaughter and the suffering of these harmless, trusting, sea mammals. This is why you see cans of tuna labelled "Dolphin-free" in the U.S. and elsewhere (but maybe not Japan?)
If the demand for dolphin meat dwindles, then the price will drop and it will not be profitable for people to engage in this kind of activity and they will have to find other work. For example,people nowadays actually pay a lot of money to go on healing excursions to swim with dolphins to feel the awe and joy of playing with dolphins at sea. Please tell everyone you know to never purchase dolphin meat or order dolphin dishes in restaurants.

By pushing for a resuption to commercial whaling (a battle that was fought out decades ago!) and massacring dolphins as illustrated here in this video, they are displaying the kind of maddness that we are meant to be questioning and fighting against in these crucial times. And the point they are missing is that it is not only inhuman and unnecessary but it is doing more damage to the human species and our own evolution than they could possibly imagine. Dolphins are used for military purposes they help them find mines for rescuing people. They were also used in the Veitnam War. marinerights 1 month ago The images above while horrific did not suprise me. It is not right to pass judgement on what different cultures choose to eat. Where we need to step in is the unacceptable methods and can easily be said barbaric ways of processing the dolphins. What needs to be remembered is not all cultures understand dolphins as mamals many see them simply as fish. in our culture fish are caught in the same manner and it is a common practice by everyday fishers to do such things as slit throats of fish to "bleed" them and preserve the flesh quality. the fact dolphins are mammals makes this world wide fishing technique barbaric as dolphins can survive a great deal of time out of water. A fish out of water will die quickly due to lack of oxygen- not the case for the dolphins. The actions are not correct and cruelty to animals no matter what the animal should not be tolerated throuhg out the world but people should not pass judgement on a nations culture of choice of food if the practices are humane, sustainable and accountable. most of the posts I have read focus on poor nobal dolphin, the issue should be the practice of cruelty and unsustainable fishing of ANY species.

marinerights 1 month ago I was refering to nature of dolphins that is not understandable, dolphins are not as noble as people believe. if you look into it you will find that dolphins like humans are one of the few species in the world that actually rape. it goes as far to be pods of young male dolphins that will pack rape a female dolphin which is left pretty much torn apart and will usually die.

I never really attacked you for highlighting dolphins behavior as much as you bashing peoples feelings of this yearly occurance. You are the one who decided you bring in outside information (young male pack seperating and pack raping a female dolphin) having nothig to do with this video. It almost seemed as though when people would talk about how innocent these animals are to be strung up and butchered, you would almost condone the act with your negative knowledge of these animals. I knew that Whales were still being killed in this manner but not Dolphins. I love them both and don't think that anyone of them should be mistreated in this manner. gini 1 month ago i have spent a good 20 min or so reading all of these posts. a friend who knows how much i appreciate wildlife including mammals of the sea sent this video to me. as disturbing as it is to watch and be made aware of once again of the actions around us all, i am still glad to know that it is a concern people care about. personally I don't think it matters what kind of animal or mammel it is. Pain is pain, and visibly they are in pain. I'm bothered by it still just thinking about it. I agree that dolphins are different from other creatures, in the sense of intelligence, emotions, etc. that has been made evident in scientific and medical fields. However, they cannot fight or make arguement towards japanese fishermen or gov't themselves. So here we are.....a cruel punishment for being the object of "food". I truely enjoy hunting and fishing. I grew up doing it and was taught from the beginning to never waste, suffer or disrespect what I killed or took. I hunt and fish for meat to eat. Never because I enjoyed killing. I have been hunting for 15 years now and still to this day I get a knot in my throat when I kill an animal. But never have I seen such a horrific act of murder. gini 1 month ago I really hope it is not in vain either shyfireman. I will not contribute either by purchasing the dolphin meat (or whale meat) as we were shown in the video. This video's intent was only to make people aware of the disturbing nature of the japanese hunt, attack and inhumane slaughter of the dolphins. Most of us are aware of that. We could all go off on a tangent and refer to tons of other issues ie) raping of dolphins within packs, japanese culture, slaughtering of cows....but for now the best thing to do is focus on the video's message. Doing this by refusing to purchase or eat the meat is a good start. It really isn't a large seller where I am from (Canada), but I'm sure it is other places. I hope others in these places are made aware and do the same. just a note on the cow situation---in fact they are slaughtered, but in an entirely different manner than most might think. It is quick and deliberate. There is absolutely no time for pain. I am only talking from a meat packing plant objective. I come from a farm and have also experienced pig and chicken slaughter and again, it is as quick as possible. These bred animals are not provoked and scared to death on purpose like those dolphins. In fact the most frightening time for most of the pork and beef animals is the ride in the trailer on the way to the plant in the enclosed areas for such a long time. anyway, there is a definite difference between the methods. There is always a better way for the Japan gov't to continue to "fish for food". Lets hope they get there soon!!

They have such a human like connection that we are the ones handed the responsibilty to protect them as well as all creatures below us. That's great that you have your ideas of farm animals being killed gently, but that's not reality. There are places that kill their animals more humanely than others, but how can you look at a single dolphin-killing video and think that every dolhin is killed that way? If you read my prior comments you'll see that I stated that I was not ignorant to the ways these animals are killed. But the reality as you put it is that beef cows are that.... for beef. They are breed for it. They are not for the most part round up and tortured, seperated from their families, hoisted out and cut up. Ive worked on a beef ranch, and the way that we butchered was quick. We were one of a few that would us caps and then cut the troat to bleed out. I never lasted, I couldnt take it. Concerns over pilot whale meat fed to Japanese school children
At a recent assembly meeting in the Japanese town of Taiji, infamous for its brutal drive hunts, it was revealed that unsold pilot whale meat had been used for school lunches.
Concerns over the safety of feeding this meat to school children was raised at the last assembly meeting in March of this year and led to a Ministry of Health inspection. As a result, meat from pilot whales killed in May and June this year was tested for the presence of contaminants.
The research showed that the pilot whale meat contained 10 to 16 times more mercury and 10 to 12 times more methyl mercury than the levels permitted by national regulations.
Despite questions raised in March about the safety of feeding potentially contaminated pilot whale meat to school children, the unsold meat was again used for school lunches during April and May while still awaiting test results.
A request was put forward at the Taiji assembly meeting this week that all whale meat should be tested and that contaminated meat should not be sold on the market.
“It is remarkable that some fifty years after the phrase ‘Minamata disease’ was coined to describe the casualties of severe methyl mercury poisoning in the industrial Japanese town of Minamata, that potentially contaminated meat was fed to school children despite significant health concerns having been raised.
"It is clear that these hunts are not only brutal for the whales and dolphins involved, but may also be potentially damaging to the local human population in Taiji" said Philippa Brakes of the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.

BEIJING, July 12 -- Two bottlenose dolphins began swimming with children suffering from autism at Sea World in Xiaomeisha on Tuesday, Wednesday's Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.
A 9-year-old girl from Luohu District and a 2-year-old boy from Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province were the first lucky children to swim with the two therapeutic dolphins that Sea World bought from Nanjing in May.
Following a month's training, the dolphins can now jump, dance, pull a boat, shake fins with and "kiss" their trainers, make noises and "count," said Zhao Ganggui, vice manager of the marketing department of Sea World.
The arrival of the two dolphins brings the total number of dolphins at the theme park's aquarium to five. They will provide autism "treatment" to 12 children a month, said Dong Yan, a dolphin trainer. However, more than 1,500 children have signed up for the treatment. The theme park has arranged for more children from outside the city to swim with the dolphins in July and August, Dong said.
Dolphins reportedly send out high-frequency ultrasonic waves of various lengths, which are said to be able to stimulate people's central nervous system and have been proven to be effective when used to treat patients suffering from Down's Syndrome, nervous system diseases and congenital autism.
Sea World began swimming dolphins with autism patients in 2001, Zhao was quoted by the Daily report as saying. "We didn't charge a penny until this year," said Zhao. "Right now, patients only need to pay the cost of feeding the dolphins and trainers' overtime."
A man surnamed Huang said he felt extremely excited Tuesday afternoon when his twin sons swam with the two dolphins. "We've waited for two years," said Huang. "It's finally our turn."
Zhao said that parents still need to take their children to hospitals or clinics for treatment. "Although swimming with dolphins has been proven to be effective, it is not an alternative treatment."

1. To a cute mammal. This I actually have no problem with. The Japanese view them in the same way we may view cattle, pigs, chickens. Food. Plus the Japs probably didn't watch Flipper so have no 'cute' index against which to grade dolphins.
2. Are slaughtering possibly the second 'most' sentient being on the planet. A moral issue and frankly the one which makes me side with those who want it stopped. These creatures are capable of extremely complex communications, learning to degrees which have scientists questioning whether they're smarter than chimps. 3. Are doing so with incedible and unnecessary cruelty - this is something they definitely need to work on. Their methods are barbaric. Surely a bullet is better if they're going to continue doing this (might loose a couple of whalers each year in the process as well through accidents). I know it is horrible to see such things and it is most likely not good for the Human race. But racist or anything else like that was not needed. However I agree that the Japanese should be penaltied for this killing of dalphins they are very smart but what they are doing is not right. those dolphins in the video, pilot whales and Baird's beaked whales, are not forbidden to take by IWC. (If you don't know what IWC is, you should not be talking about this video.)
The narration in the video sounds as if Japanese is violating the treaty, but it is not true. Japan has followed IWC's regulation since 1988. You should see the site below.
Those fishermen hunt pilot whales and Baird's beaked whales not only as a food resource, but also for protecting their fish farm in the ocean. As you know dolphins are smart so they know how to break through fish farm nets and eat the fish inside of the nets. Such a break in can be devastating to the whole fishing industry.
These are just a few of the facts about whaling in Japan, which most people don't even know in the US. The last time I commented I was corrected by adon. They are indeed correct in the fact that beef, pork, etc are slaughtered in very inhumane ways as well. I wouldn't have anyone believe they are. I honestly never thought about it when I made the comment late at night, or maybe I chose to subconsciously ignore it. Anyway, it is true that it does happen in the world but we can't very well stop that either at the moment.

Watching this video was very heartbreaking, I feel so sad for the dolphins, that was certaintly brutal murder. The dolphins were suffering until they drowned in their own blood. What made me even more sad is that the japanese government allows this sort of action to continue.

I've seen people fish and hunt animal before, but never in such an.. unmoral and cruel way. I was horrified and appalled at their methods and yes, I admit I would like to sock a few in the eye. This video is so horrible to watch, it is unbelievalbe how humans could be so imhumane to another living being. Where is this world going. As horrific this is the USA citizens also need to take a look at the ongoing farm factories where farm animals such as cattle, hogs and chickens are raised in such terrible conditions, including neglect and abuse (look up downers) so we can eat our meat! And they wonder where all these diseases such as ecoli from meat consumption is coming from. I am not telling all to become a vegitarian, but open your eyes, see what is happening, look at the farm situations, support the small farmers who take care of their animals, because consuming products from these farm factories is just as bad as those who consume the meat from these dolphins being slaughtered so inhumanely. those dolphins in the video, pilot whales and Baird's beaked whales, are not forbidden to take by IWC. (If you don't know what IWC is, you should not be talking about this video.)
The narration in the video sounds as if Japanese is violating the treaty, but it is not true. Japan has followed IWC's regulation since 1988. You should see the site below.
Those fishermen hunt pilot whales and Baird's beaked whales not only as a food resource, but also for protecting their fish farm in the ocean. As you know dolphins are smart so they know how to break through fish farm nets and eat the fish inside of the nets. Such a break in can be devastating to the whole fishing industry.
These are just a few of the facts about whaling in Japan, which most people don't even know in the US. Those who posted racial and ignorant comments about Japan and Japanese are just showing their dumbness and embarrassing themselves. I can't stop laughing at those ignorant people. They even brought up WWII and nukes? You people have no idea how many Japanese people suffered from the nuke bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Some still have been suffering from leukemia today.
