Not nice to make fun of old people, we all might be one someday.

Perhaps the Dems should start a new taxpayer funded program to rewire old people's tv?

Really funny to make fun of old people, after all, we will all be old one day.

did you know that DTV did an experiment not to long ago? They turned off all of the analog TVs in a small town and only kept the digital TVs. They got over 1000 complaints on the first day which was a work day. Even though most TV watching is on days like Friday, Saturday or Sunday I don't know how many complaints were in total. I just know there was alot.

Even though they got so many complaints from such a small town, they are still planning to turn off all of the analog TVs on the same day. America is going to be really pissed that day.

True dat, but hey, maybe those fat lazy sobs will watch less tv? And wait a second... is the government seriously paying for these boxes?? What the FUCK?

I still haven't bothered to get my digital converter box. It really is best to procrastinate until the last possible minute, then run to the store, only to discover everyone else did the same and the store is sold out.

To be TV-less for a week, oh the inhumanity!

I converted in the spring, its easy and looks great. But the sound levels seem to be unregulated, on some stations the commercials are at a volume easily 4 to 6 times the volume of the programs. It is so bad I dropped some of them from the decoding list.

I also needed to buy a UHF antenna, and scrap the old analog unit. The antenna and a amplifier are 95% of the solution.

Germany already has the terrestrial TV converted mostly to digital. The programs did not become any better, though the pictures are...

I haven't owned a TV for 11 years. Broadcast TV blows..

We already have digital broadcasting, but they haven't weaned us from our analog yet.

Anyone outside the US will be confused by this. Yes we are just getting digital TV, and maybe someday something called metric measurement. I have also heard rumors that in some countries have cell phones that work.

I guess we will just have to wait for Europe and China to design, build, and install the technological wonders from distant lands.

Sorry folks but a nation that outsources it' industrial base is doomed. How is locally selling services to each other going to pay off the debt? Perhaps the Wizards of Wall Street can answer that.

I know exactly what you mean, I had to teach my dad how to use a computer. Taking a 59 year old from learning where the power switch is to learning how to use a word processor, spreadsheet and internet took a long time and a lot of patience. Thank goodness in the end his boss paid for some professional training after the first few weeks.

Er, meant to be added to bucketboy's comment

BTW: The US terrestrial digital TV system is not quite optimal for use in areas where there is a sparse coverage with transmitter stations. The European system is a lot better in this regard enabling either longer range or lower power for the same range.

You don't even need to be that old to be computer illiterate. My neighbour, who is only in his 50s, frequently pops over for a beer and a smoke. The other day I happened to be sitting at a table out the front using my laptop when he turned up from my backyard. He gave me shit for playing with toys, then said maybe I could do something on the internet for him. As he didn't have the URL a parts salesman had given him I started to search on Google for the info he wanted.
He watched me for a while from the other side of the table, before pointing at the mouse and saying, "You waggle that thing around too! They do that in the bank. I thought you just had to push the buttons?". I laughed, then stopped when I realised that he wasn't kidding. He had NO idea what the function of a mouse was. I started to explain, but just felt like I was being patronising when I pointed to "that little arrow" to show how it moved when you moved the mouse.
Baby steps. I'm still not sure that he caught on, or even worked out why you would go to so much trouble just to make a little arrow on your tv waggle.
