this man is a priest of his religion: evolution.

The difference in science and religion is this: a person of faith believes that nothing changes in his/her faith (that it has always been this way and will always be this way - that the Bible, for example, is the irrefutable word of God) and a person of science can continually update their understanding of the world as new discoveries are realized. Thus science cannot be religion because it continually is on the march forward toward a better understanding of planet Earth, our Universe and life in general. The scientist has only enough faith in the facts to take him/her to the next reality. The religious person (and I mean a zealot here) cannot fathom changes in his/her understanding of the Universe.

What an insightful explanation of the contrary aspects of life, beliefs, and politics. Right thinking is in the minority like like my voters. But understates the power of the dark side.
Evolution is not a religion, but an extremely well documented scientific theory. Dawkins is a much needed voice of reason against the ridiculous tide of religion in American culture.

An excellent review of reason and logic and its place in the world, and a compelling discussion of why people should view religion as a poison. This is worth a watch by anyone, theist or not.

Strange - not many creationists posting anything negative yet

More of the US should watch this!

Superb

Creationists neither have the patience or mental capacity to watch! Dawkins is a great orator and in my opinion a genius. For anyone who feels strongly regarding religion or evolution (on either side) you have to read The Selfish Gene, Blind Watchmaker, or The God Delusion. I assert that creationists will not watch the entire thing. Just take a trip to a review section on a book vendor's website to see the creationist's responses on books they haven't read.

I can't stand this guy. It not his push of atheism which rubs me the wrong way, it his overpowering vibe of intellectual superiority. Every speech and interview I have ever seen of him, he comes off so much as saying “God is a dangerous delusion and I don’t believe in God therefore I am smarter/better/more open minded than the rest of you worshipping morons” which is a level of arrogance that I cannot stand. It is this new leftism taken to an extreme.

I refuse to give of my religion because it is a cornerstone of my culture and personal identity. Furthermore it is an act of defiance, for thousands of years people have tired to wipe my people out and I am still here. But my religious beliefs do not forbid me from believing in the scientific nature of the universe, evolution or the big bang. I don’t thing god had anything to do with the origin of man. I have many friends like me, who are both consummate scientists and have religious beliefs and deal with it just fine. He makes us out to be idiots and calf worshippers because we hold on to some last vestige of spirituality. He is just as fucking crazy as, but on the other end of the spectrum from, that hateful pastor Fred Phelps from the Westborough Baptist church (the “God hates fags” church).

Dawkins: “if you believe in god you are a knuckle dragging moron who probably thinks G. W. Bush is the messiah and has a fun afternoon drinking beer and killing gays and scientists.”

Phelps: “if you don’t believe in god you are a fag loving heathen that will burn in hell and are responsible for all the evil in the world, e.g. hurricane Katrina, 9/11, etc”

Me: “FUCK THE BOTH OF YOU AND STAY THE FUCK OUT MY PERSONAL LIFE YOU PIECES OF SHIT!!!”

This guy will be dead long before I, and I will laugh.. He's a pretentious prick. I think we're all aware of the possibilities. He's missed the point about the creationist argument... its not that man is so complex it can only be explained by creation. Its about faith. Fuck "evidence" if it destroys the foundation of modern civilization.

Everyone laughs at the idea of religion in this video. Fuck them all, too. Anyone wanting to live in Monterey, CA, think again. Its beautiful, but the people ruin it. its a cesspool of eccentric, sheltered, liberal freaks who know nothing about the world except what they think it should look like in their own elitist heads. I lived there 4 years, and wouldn't lose a second of sleep if it broke off into the ocean and sank.

Dear aardvark,

I must ask you why do you believe what you believe? The evolutionists can show you why they believe the way they do. Where is the evidence for your faith?

Anger, and I see it in your missive, is a common reaction to a clear, cogent argument for which one has no rational response. The usual response when one has no foundation of rebuttal, and I also see it here in your ruminations, is bodily harm. Kill the messanger (i.e. ad hominem attack), which is of course a logical fallacy.

Don't be angry with Dawkins just because he's decided he's not going to take religious fundamentalism lying down. He and many of his ilk have been attacked again and again for their beliefs, if not tourtured and killed. Now you might actually understand what free thinkers have been experiencing since organized religion and "prophets" took control of "reality". Only you are not threatened with bodily harm - just mental analysis of your "faith". Notice the date on the video: this is a reaction to the zealotry of 9/11. Do you really want to be associated with that event?

Respectfully,

Let me tell you zealots a little story. I was once a staunch believer as well. I would argue in favor, pray, ask for guidance just as you do. Then one day and not because of some tragic event that shook my beliefs but a friend asked me to stand back and take another look at my beliefs, and I did.
And with no help from anyone, within several hours I was devastaded at what I found. I had been duped! For thirty three years I had blindly followed a make believe story. I can chuckle about it now but that day and for several weeks I was embarassed with myself for allowing myself to be led along so blindly. Dont get me wrong I applaud religion on a small scale for starting us on the right path but its had its time.

As I see it, it was no ones fault that I was a believer it was bred into me from day one, and I am not talking six days a week its this or nothing else I am talking just once a week service at a Church of Christ. And this is where believers have such a hard time with themselves it just goes along with the old addage "If you tell a lie lopng enough if you will begin to believe in said lie.

Religion at this stage in our life on earth is a hinderance on any forward progress we could have. All your beliefs do is bring us wars and hatred.
And I am no better than you because I do hate you and your kind. Its seems harsh but I have no time for you and your religions.
