BREAKING NEWS: (appropriate, considering this is a mocking political video!)
Apparently, Huckabee has won the Republican caucus in Iowa, and Obama has won the Democratic nod.
Wow.
I bet this has really fucked up Romney, and left him pissed; he's spent a LOT of money campaigning in that state; Hillary must looking for someones throat to slit, 'cuz I'm thinking she thought this was gonna be a cakewalk. Guliani and Thompson? Shit, they're not even on the radar. AT ALL. They may as well pack up and get the fuck outta town.
Yeah I told you that Clinton WOULDNT win Iowa and Huckabee would win for the Republicans. I told you so.
Dont give up on Clinton just yet. She'll bitch fight her way to the top.. Of course all of the Democratic candidates except Edwards are a bunch of ass clowns.
I think huckabee is screwed here in the north east, all that evangelical support is all the more reason to someone else. After all look at the track record of the religious right.
Fact is that this election people are looking for the candidate with the most balanced MIND, and who can fix the damage caused by the current religious/corporate shill.
Clinton, Giuliani, and McCain should do better in NH, but here Romney is running on his record, and we all know what that means.
But this only applies to the north east, in the south they vote the way their religious madrases tell them to vote.
I haf just had ein phone call from ein friend in America. Ze line vos kvite crackly, und I am still recovering from mein New Year excesses, but ze news I heard vos startling.
Apparently, ze candidates for Fuhrer of the US include ze maniac Osama bin Laden, Bill Clinton, ze film starlet Julie Anne Moore und ze cartoon dog Huckleberry Hound.
Ah Adolf, good morning, or good afternoon as it is here in our home country.
I have just found an interesting video that shows picture from your past. Unfortunately the comments are in German only, but the pictures should be sufficient: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=W6pOU0LCMSQ
The truth is that the wealthy have sucked the country dry. There is no more capital to be consumed! This analysis is correct although simplistic of how the Fed has been raping the US taxpayer since it's inception. I heard on the radio that in a attempt to keep the wealthy bankers from taking a loss on their real estate screw up, they are borrowing money from the Government at a rate lower than the government is borrowing from the Fed.
The dollar and all of the currencies that it supports will also have to fall, and it will cause a world wide recession for all countries that do not have the ability to manufacture their own goods.
The fact is that it will be more of a depression than a recession. Because of the 'free trade' acts America can now sit back and prosper on our thriving manufacturing right? Oh!, I forgot we don't believe in manufacturing anymore, we are going to correct the trade imbalance by selling services between each other. How? I don't know ask the Bush administration. Don't worry the cash rich states of the world be be coming to America for the bargain of the century, so be prepared to not only work for a foreign power, but to also have the profits of your labor shipped back to that power.
And remember last week the congress voted in HUGE tax breaks for the Oil companies in exchange for new MPG standards for Automobiles. And don't forget next year $100/barrel oil will look like a bargain.
And this article is correct in that the coming election will in a large way determine the future existence of the USA.
Hindsight...... Ross Perot said it would happen, and it has. But we can still make all our country's decisions based on religion and abortion, and just ignore the HUGE problems we have right?
There was this group of native Americans that lived in Washington state. They made their living by growing apples. This group decided that they could sell their apples for less than any of the other tribes. They got bannished and had to move to Indiana. They tried to grow apples there, but were not successful. So they moved forward into auto racing. And the Appless Indian 500 was born.
Clever.
Podster....why so negative? Just because we've had a "Bush dynasty" for so many years, and are facing the possibility of a "Clinton dynasty"....well, for goodness sakes, why are you so riled up? These are really good, value minded 'mericans, wavin' the FLAG, in case ya didn't notice. Marchin' on to, well, whatever the hell looks good to march on.
And who to turn to...Ron Paul (?) Save me. Good ideas, no grip on reality. No chance to win.
How 'bout that there actor who's trying to emulate Ronald Reagan...pale imitation, and no substance, I think.
And after all....what drops out of this winnowing process....(expletive deleted).
I haven't voted for a winner in so long, I am beginning to think I am out of pace with this country's direction...which, I think might be self-destructive...or at least, self flagellating.
Eh, les autres Canadiens....the Brooooooons are coming!
As a non-american looking at the available candidates is a bit creepy. My guess currently is that maybe Obama would do the least damage, which would be a hughe improvement over GWB. Though it seems to be rather hard to find what he actually stands for...
Most of the other look like nutcases that need a treatment more than an office. Mrs. Clinton to me seems like the cold blooded calculating type that will do anything for an advantage, not good.
It is not really that the situation here is much better when it comes to candidates for the chancellor. Except that in Germany the candidates are selected by their parties without any kind of preelection.
Much of my adult life I was voting against Helmut Kohl, not even bothering to check out what qualities the other candidate might have, it could not have been worse...
Bug- I worked with some German SAP consultants here, and it was rather amusing to see how tired they got from the general ciaos in US society. It was interesting to to talk to them about the differences between us, as well as the similarities.
I miss those guys, and it was a fun project. The one fellow was totally relieved to be going home and away from the US to a land where common sense overrides short term interests.
....please remember, all, we only know these candidates as they have been portrayed in our media - print, talk radio, and tv. And much of what we read and see is bent toward the view of what sells best. There are, of course, exceptions...and that is what they are....exceptions.
Damn. McCain might still survive to the end game...scary, but as opposed to all them others ....? ? ? ? ?
Pick your poison, maybe, but at least let the poison be user-friendly.
Love Barak...for mayor. Love Huckabee...for Secretay of the Interior. Love Hillary....for Ambassador to the Hebrides, Antartica, and Greenland. Love John Edwards...for LA Cosmetology King. Love Mitt Romney...for national confessor and Secretary of Waffle.
Actually, that was a bit strident. But my intent can be discerned, I suppose.
SOMEONE needs to be elected, and along with so many, I am despairing of logical choices. Oh...Giuliani...great candidate for NYC mayor....oh....done that already?...well, retire, then.
Damn....I AM ANNOUNCING MY CANDIDACY FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
OK...Not. But middle American candidates haven't been an option since
Truman. Ah well....where's my next wine......?
One thing I find fascinating in the USA is the overall abysmal quality of household installations. Most of the materials used there would not even make it to the supply stores here, let alone the way they are installed.
On the other hand if something unconventional needs to be done this is only a minor problem in the USA, in Germany you can be sure that a commitee will be installed to handle the matter.
It is also fascinating that things that are overregulated in Germany are underregulated in the US and vice versa.
I would love to live in a country that learns from the errors other countries have already made instead of duplicating them...
chaz if you took the time to research the candidates background you would find that ron paul is the only candidate with any backbone....his knowledge of the constitution and principals of democracy and his history of acting and voting with integrity are a matter of record...the mainstream media has successfully denied him equal access however he raised 20million dollars in one day by small individual donations....(never been done before..not even close) just remember the government that governs best governs least...
Many of us know too much to ever be really happy...
Once again most of us will go to the voting booth with the plan of choosing the candidate that will do the least harm. The nauseating process repeats, and nothing will be fixed. I do not see a candidate that is capable of doing what needs to be done without regard to their corporate and party handlers.
Real decisions often cause real pain in the short term, but are for the greater good in the longer vision. I doubt that anyone we elect will have the backbone to do what is in the best interest of the people. The next president will have to have the strength of character to drive MANY unpopular actions, and make the future better.
It is not always the best decision to choose a leader who is safe. Almost always those who drive the future are willing to cause great damage to get to the final goal. Ron Paul will not even be in the debates, but owes his popularity to the fact that the financial boat is sinking, and those of us down here in steerage know that we are drowning, and the folks up in first class don't care because there are enough life boats for them.
The Fed has lost most of its ability to control the money supply, and Alan Greenspan left a record foreign deficit, because he wanted to reduce the dot com bounce. They are in a place where they cannot make anymore 'good' decisions. There is no elasticity left in the system, and there is no underlying economy that is capable of reducing the deficit. Deregulation has caused instability in almost every sector in which it has been applied. And free trade is a form of GLOBAL deregulation.
Banks have undergone a change since deregulation. I suppose some have noticed the recurring scandals, the fees, the sheer idiocy and unrestrained greed that allowed then to write mortgages based on 200% of the borrowers income. Citibank may be foreign owned very soon as it is now being levied up by foreign capital.
Signs of collapse include rising credit card defaults, foreclosures, corporate failures in the retail sector, retraction of the money supply, as well as a cascade of companies unable to pay each other. Corporations have moved significant capital out of the US and further drive the imbalance by continuing the rush to outsource.
All arrows point downward. At this point hard decisions have to be made to just how far down we are going to go. I do not believe any realistic change will be made until the entire ship in on the bottom.
Yeah billyB, and how clever was this one? I loved it, but have to wonder where the words come from. What a piece of work.
Monty, when referring to dubbing with this moron, it's "dubya".
I'm not deaf. Dubya's daddy said it first, "Read my lips.." and now being given nothing but lip-service and death from this Bush it's long overdue to end the insanity. Not likely. My daddy knew his daddy during the dark days (covert ops before congress took the fun out of it in the 70's). Dad warned me of these folk.
Time for change, but you know what? Change doesn't come from a vote one day every four years, or whenever you vote. It comes from you, where you spend your hard earned rewards. That Pakistani operating the corner store earning my patronage, or vote via dollars, makes more impact on my life than my chad in Florida. He pays taxes in my town, and perhaps sends dollars to Pakistan. That is what is real in my life. I don't fear him, but support him and what he believes, because we share the same reality here in Ocoee. Ok, so he knows Christ and Vishnu and the slithery savior we Christians define deviant dieties as, but this is of no matter. We believe in something, and we both respect one another for our contributions. Stop fearing what your government tells you to fear! We have a fantastic medium of communication here to level the field, and I believe the petty battles entertained by Glumbertians adds to the sum of good Karma through familiarity of opposing arguments.
You know, this "Barefoot" Cabernet that sells for $10 a jug is as tasty as better wines I can only imagine, for I am a connie-sewar of cheep wine....where is C-man when I'm feeling...Aw crap, I just need another asshole for contrast...
C, what I meant to say was I feeling like an asshole and was in the mood to spar.
Chuck and Randal, yeah, I know Bill and over the past years we've spent some good time together, but as you might gather from my posts lately we've been out of touch.
chucky...your tone seems critical, or maybe I've read you wrong. "If you had taken the time to research...etc."...duhhhhh.....guess where these events are taking place, and guess where the information overload is taking place, and guess where the frustration is taking place, and ...well....screw...
...don't underestimate me or others here, chucky. I like a lot of your posts....but I don't like some, mostly because you take on a tone of superiority that thus far in your Glumbert history has yet to be shown as credible.
BTW, my postings were in the vein of humor, or had you not noticed? Ron Paul may be the best thing since canned beer, but HE WILL NOT BE NOMINATED. It's a matter of public perception, not pureness of heart. The media has made Paul a caricature of himself, unfairly for sure, but factually, that's the reality. We do, however, agree re: Giuliani...going nowhere.
Lighten up, chucky. No need to be insulting. This site is for laughs, mostly.
We will see if Faux News really is "Fair and Balanced" and will Ron Paul into the debates. I doubt it though. I think this country really needs Ron Paul as president, or we need to abolish the "two" party system, and the Electoral college. The "two" parties are identical anyway.
Been staying off the computer much lately, got a pinched nerve, hurts to type. or sit. or lay. or drive. or go to work. or talk on the phone. pretty much hurts to do everything. It's improving a little though.
Talk soon!
Free
Gawd free, don't you hate those pinched nerves! Kind of puts your life on hold doesn't it....the cure...two glass's of pinot noir, some hot tub time, then a big rub down with strong hands, works every time! (for her anyway) lol
Thanks for the advice miter. I could get the wine, but the hot tub and strong hands are going to be a little harder to come by! Damn. Sounds like a real program too.
Had one appt with a chiropractor, have another in a few days. He was able to work it out a little, so some improvement, but it's still pretty miserable a lot of the time. Most of the time. Ok, all the time! But I tell myself it's a little better since the appt. At least I don't feel like bawling 24-7. I let it get bad this time. Silly me.
The republican party has abandoned it's Paleocon roots in favor of a Trotskiest neo"con" agenda.
When I look at the ballot, I see nothing but candidates conspiring for a government monopoly, they are all leftists in my book. Rest in peace, America.
pod relax i know chaz doesn't like to muddy the water with facts but... 1.) there have been many forms of the h5n1 virus..only one has successfully mutated to h2h transmission state (~1918)..regrettably it killed more people than WW1 2.) there's probably nothing you could do about it anyway if it becomes aerosol transmissible 3.) read"The Great Influenza" (which was an avian flu)....terrific factual account of the largest pandemic since the bubonic plague.....
Chuck - I am relaxed. This is not as big a worry for me as for most others. If it happens I stand a pretty good chance of survival. I have not read that one but I did read The Coming Plague, which was quite good.
Actually, they have reclaimed the 1918 flu that wiped out most of my grandparents siblings from frozen corpses in the arctic.
It is alive and well and being distributed to labs around the world.
Surfer - Funny you should say that. I was in the P.O. the other day behind a guy from India, and he was coughing. My first reaction was to start backing away, because I know they have TB, leprosy, you name it over there.
Fact is we have to be careful around immigrants. You never really know how long they have been here, and we have a LOT of Indians here in the NE.
The debates start in about 1 hour, so lets all watch and see which one of these guys are worthy of our vote. I'm going to get my snacks ready and like a good game of football I expect to be bored, surprised, and angry.
The beginning of 10 months of promises made, followed by 4 years of promises broken. Its going to be quite a ride...
And where the fuck have YOU been, Jarhead??? Hah??? LOL!
Anyways, good to see ya again! Good to see Chaz again as well (although I find it a bit unnerving when he drinks and goes into that French-Canadian delivery of his.....JAYZUS!). Ain't that Colonel Vanker a scream? LOL! Electing the next "Fuhreur" (sp.?) ....LMFAO! And what the fuck is going on?? SNOW in California?? Snow in FLORIDA??? Snow in MEXICO?? And yet up here, we're gonna get 60-degree weather this weekend! I guess the eco-system really is screwed. Good question though, Randy-Man....haven't seen Mako, Skids or Just me around in a while. Hope all is well with them.
I'm bored outta my freakin' mind, so it's story-time again, from the True-Life files of...well....Yours Truly (and no...I'm not gonna divulge SPECIFIC personal information...LOL!). If ya wanna read it, fine. If not..pass over this offering. Here goes:
I can't wait for the summer. Know why? Because we live in a residential cul-de-sac, and as a result, we're very good friends with most of our neighbours. In fact, on summer nights, we tend to sit out into the wee hours at the foot of any given driveway in our fold-up chairs, drinking beer, wine, eating pizza, whatever, and just kibbitz the night away. Anyways, my wife remarked about how Pat, Travis, Steve and me reminded from the guys on "King of the Hill"; I said "Huh??". "Yeah", she says; "I look outside sometimes, and there are the four of you: T-shirts, standing around; beer in each hand; watching everything and everybody." I says to her "Oh man! You better not say I'm Boomhauer..or Bill....fuck that noise." She laughed, and said she had me more in mind for either Hank or Dale. I said, "Thanks. I think". Then I told her that if I'm Dale, then I better not catch John Redcorn anywhere NEAR my place, or their was gonna be TWO people goin' to La-La Land. THen it was HER turn to say, "Thanks. I think."
Anyways, this past summer, there we were as usual..the four of us, standing around (this time in front of MY driveway) drinkin' beer. So Pat says "Psst. Check it out. He's fuckin' at it AGAIN!" Just up the street, we have a weirdo we call "Flanders"; anyway, Flanders has this ting that when he pulls into his driveway, he gets out of his car, goes in his house.....and comes back out 10 minutes later; looks around the car; underneath it; over it; behind it; it's like a goddamn ritual. And what makes it more odd, is that he LOOKS like he's trying to be ....what would be the right word here....ummm...stealthy, about it. Yeah. That's it. Stealthy. I mean, ya gotta SEE this guy to believe it. Then he goes into the house, and 5 minutes after THAT, the lights in his bedroom start turning on and off in slow, measured repeats. This goes on for about 30 minutes, as well. Then it all goes dark. He goes through this weird ritual EVERYTIME. You could set your watch by it. Steve says, "You know...I think he's honestly fucked up". Travis is the quiet one, so he just nods in agreement. Pat (who's usually loaded to the gills by this point), says "We should ask that fuckin' guy what is wrong with him." I pipe up, and say "I will. I will do just that. Tommorrow night. You watch." So, tomorrow night comes, and sure enough, we watch Flanders come home, pull into his driveway, and start his creepy little routine. So I start walking towards his house. Pat flips, and says he didn't think I'd do it. Steve says, "No, C! Go ahead!", and starts laughing. So I mozie on over....and guess what? Flanders looks up at me approaching (in a very benign way,I might add, smiling and shit)........
And HISSES at me. I mean fuckin' HISSES at me!.....and runs into his house.
The guys see this, and start cackling. I get back to the group, and I start laughing too. I says to them, “Ummm….did you guys see that??” Steve says “Wow, C. I think you turned him on. “Aww shaddap, ya fokker.”, I says. “I think that boy needs some fuckin’ help.” Pat says “Why don’t ya just pepper-spray’em, C? That way, when he hisses at ya again, he’ll at least sound like he likes ya.”
Ha-ha, I says. You’re about as funny as a fukkin’ root canal.
Anyways, he’s a strange bird, and we just try to avoid him (Flanders, I mean)
Sounds like a real strange-ass neighbor you got Canuck! Wow.
The worst I ever got was years ago, when my kids were little, a lady lived next door, not real close, about maybe 75 yds away? Almost a football field. Anyway, she used to come over with her coffee cup, she had a three year old boy, and I would ask her, Where's Kevin? She would say, Oh he's sleeping. Seemed to me a long way to be away from a three year old, even if he was sleeping. And I used to see Kevin out all day sometimes, in the yard, near the road, she never once checked on him. He was only three. And, she would bring him over into my yard, just stroll over, stay five minutes, then say to Kevin, Now you be good! and walk away home. Not even ask if it was ok for him to stay and play with my kids, feed him lunch, etc. Some people got all kinds of nerve, and are not very good parents. Thankfully, she moved away after a few months, but I always wondered how Kevin made out!
Mme. Blake....y'know, that's EXACTLY what Travis's wife said...and we all kinda agreed it might be a form of OCD.
Still, it DOES give one the willies to see someone doing that shit repeatedly in the dark like that.
Hey Podster........remember that old Twilight Zone episode, "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street"? Well, if anything like THAT ever sprouts up on our street, I swear the first weirdo to get pegged for a friggin' alien is gonna be Flanders.
LOL how weird! The lights deal especially...wtf? Great amusement though I'm sure!
Quite a few years back we had a strange one two doors down, he was a nam vet that came back really screwed up...very paranoid, he would sit in his AMC hornet (w/4 flats) and red line the motor, for half an hour at a time, every day for weeks, It would keep going too, never blew up! Then one day we heard what sounded like gun shots, then sirens and cops all over, with bullhorns telling everyone to stay in the house, turns out the dude was "hunting" squirrels for food! Right in the middle of town! When they searched his house if was FULL of dead animals, cats, dogs, coons, possum, you name it, it was in there! We never saw him again after that.
A neighbour creeping around living off of SQUIRRELS??? Oh mah gawd!
Hey this is a pretty swell thing here:
Why don't we just keep going here, and ask anyone else if THEY'VE got a Neighbour -Who -Is -Truly -Weird/Fucked-Up/Outright Nutty, or neighbour Who -Creeped -Them- Out story. Either one.
Anyone else got a doozy on this one that they wanna share?
Canuck....you are not the subject of these issues, at least, not directly. We are shaking our heads also, except we are the people who are faced with the vote issue.
Sucks.
There are no more Trumans...no more (gasp) Reagans...no more saviors of the 'merican way.
Still...we will still be your (Canada's) most beneficial friend. You profit from our status. We benefit from your friendship, and you from ours.
Chaz! Buddy! Get a grip! You've got to get over that American train of thought, "we haven't invaded your country, so you are better off being our friend." Look what the US did to Japan back in the 40's. And now Japan is the leader in technology in the world. Want to see how stupid that thought is? Movie with Peter Sellers called, "The Mouse that Roared."
I have said in a previous post that Canada is friendly toward Americans who don't want to live in America. Or, at least friendly toward Americans who don't want to be told to go to some foreign country and get killed (no offense Ranger, I have the utmost respect for you and your fellows).
LET'S BRING THE BOYS HOME ALIVE!!!!
Geezus! Now I'm sounding like Canuck. And like Canuck, I'm going to go drink something much, much, worse that Kokanees!
svenn666 - Probably you won't return to this thread, but if you do...thanks. I did go a bit overboard. I am so unhappy with the last bunch of years in US international performance...but there is absolutely no way I would give up my life here.
We need to keep pushing for honesty, which I look for first, beyond abortion position, illegal immigration position, and even tax and budget position. I want an honest, forthright person at the helm, even if I disagree with his/her stands on specific issues.
Is Margaret Thatcher available? Sheesh...how 'bout Tony Blair? Cripes, so far as leadership is concerned, Vladimir Putin is looking good. (sort of kidding on some of these...sort of).
I used to live in a large apartment complex, and we had a guy that would walk up and down the sidewalk every Saturday morning and shout over and over again this phrase: "Who I am, god damn it! Who I am!"
I was a early riser so he never woke me up, but other people would shout out the most interesting stuff. I remember one guy shouted back: "You are a god damn loud mouthed jerk! Now shut the fuck up, Now shut the fuck up, ...
On and on it went each weekend in the summer. Ahhh the sounds of summer. The birds, the wind blowing through the trees, and the shouts of "Who I am, god damn it!"
Anyone watching what I call the clusterfuck of all cat fights on tv (AKA debates)? I cant wait to see Hillary and Obama cat it out. Its funny to see Romney start fights w/everyone. AHHH fucked up. And then there's the crazy uncle Ron Paul talking about printing less money. If only the writers strike wasn't going on, they'd make SO much fun of this on SNL...well, if SNL was still good.
2 parties 1 night, I feel so fucking privileged. Well shit.
hahahahaha iluvit homeboys and handguns dont mix A 17-year-old boy, and 19-year-old Patrick Jefferson, accidentally shot off their genitilia while "holstering" handguns in their waistbands (in, respectively, Pittsburgh, September, and Chicago, August). [Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 9-13-07] [Chicago Tribune, 8-23-07]
( Eric Titov, 22, accidentally shot himself to death while fleeing from police after his tripping on his fashionably baggy trousers falling to the ground and discharging his firearm) (Houston, October). [Houston Chronicle, 10-29-07]
And then there's the two braintrust who were tracing a pattern of a gun on one of them for a tattoo. The gun went off and shot both of them....Fox News.
You know what folks.....for all our bitchin' about Glumbert.....I'm coming home baby. I take back anything negative I've ever said about Daniel Rhodes or Glumbert. I got caught up in a video on Youtube. It reminded me of my Grandfather. I didn't mean to carry on too long. I got emotional and my words flowed. (Ya, UDB I've spelled a lot of words wrong here....but I'm cryin') So, my point is I went to post my muse. Youtube said too many words. Nothing against Youtube, but I know where I belong. Thanks, Glumbert for never shutting me up......or shutting me down...........or silencing me.......or getting annoyed with me...........awwwwwwwwwwwwwww shit. Thank you!
People are going to get sick of my whining, no doubt, but the shoulder hurts too much to concentrate on much else. How did they go? The debates I mean.
Obama looked good, and is obviously a very sharp guy.
Ron Paul - looked out of his element, because I don't think any of the others understood monetary policy.
Edwards - was quite impressive, and surprised me with his passion to bring down corporate greed. I'm kinda liking him too now.
Romney - Made himself out to be the lying asshole that he has always been known to be here in the NE. Big looser of the evening.
McCain - seemed less of the old fool, and more of a sharp political stratigest.
Huckabee - Was timid and although well spoken seemed lost in the complexity of the situation. And he got in his Praise the Lord stuff to garner any future evangelical voters.
Giuliani - Kept spouting how the war should be expanded. That guy is nuts.
All together the three democrats Clinton, Obama, and Edwards gave a good impression, and were generally civil to each other.
The Republicans were actually funny, and frightening at the same time. They were aggressive, nasty, and generally untruthful to the point of being obvious.
IMHO overall winners of the night: Edwards, Clinton, Obama.
Among the republicans I don't think anyone stood out as being presidential.
Thank you pod, great summation. Helps keep me a little more informed to read your take on it. I'll look forward to reading more, from you, and all the other guys on here. You are all a lot more up to date than I am on the subject. But I better start getting up to speed.
A little weird, yeah. (if you spelled it wrong, so did I). I couldn't stay away too long, but have had to keep it short. (see above somewhere, I think, pinched nerve post). Haven't been up to par lately.
Til next time!
Back In Vermont we had a small farm, and next to out place there was a small patch of land owned or being squatted on by a strange guy. He was very poor, and very crazy. As far as we could tell he would go th the animal shelter and get dogs and then feed them at his place, until he got hungry and would eat a dog. After a while (because none of these animals were restrained), he had around 30 dogs running in packs all over the place, and ours. I was just a teenager but I was confronted by these packs often and they would kill and feed on our livestock.
We called the "Dog Warden" and the police, over and over again and nothing could be accomplished to make this guy restrain the dogs. One day after years of this bull crap I caught these dogs chasing one of our pets (a cat). Well that was it for me, I got my rifle and just started shooting. I heard from my neighbors that a few of his dogs died that night.
My neighbors asked me if I was shooting the dogs, and I said yes I was, and would continue to do so as I saw them. So they said they would start doing the same, and they did. I think he lost about 10 dogs before he started tying them up. He never let them run loose again. Of course they never stopped barking for those 10 plus years. I have always felt bad about killing those dogs, because it was not really their fault, but sometimes taking the law into your own hands would seem to be the only solution, at least in this case.
A few years later, after not paying his taxes for 20 years the state had enough and the State Troopers came and took all his stuff away. The last item to go was his house (A large sears garden shed). They just tied it to the back of a truck and dragged it up the road with sparks a flying. It was finally over and the entire neighborhood cheered.
Here's a crazy neighbor story, where they thought I was the crazy neighbor.
Long ago when still living at home, over the course of a week or so, my Dad, brothers, and a couple friends were checking out a rare alignment of planets with a telescope, which happened to be hovering just above the roof line of a neighbor across the street, since it was summertime, dark wasn't until around 11:00 PM so kinda late. My Dad would tell us all to be very quite so we didn't disturb the neighborhood, so there we were quietly "sneaking" around, assembling around a telescope on the sidewalk in front of the lady's house, when out of the bushes come around five cops, guns and flashlights out! Seems the "lady" (we're talking 70 year old) thought we were peeping toms spying on HER! Fortunately for us, there were three big bright planets gleaming in the night sky right above her roof!
That sounds like the "harmonic convergence" of August 1987...weird. I have a lame story about that...
I was in Miami for a trade show, and awoke during the early hours of the day and felt compelled to get out of bed and drive...that's all I remember. I ended up on South Beach, Miami, and never having been there was amazed for it was like Times Square in NYC in that sleep wasn't there at all, but instead old Jews sitting on park benches, folk walking dogs...seemed rather normal if it was mid morning or mid afternoon.
I parked my car and walked to the surf. The water was warm, and the beach was mine. A very slight glow was on the horizon for it was a new day and about to be light in a few hours. I took a lotus seat and just let the seabreaze delivered by the oncoming waves caress my soul. I've found spirituality in my life since, but during that "here and now", I was having my first stirrings of...I can't put it into words.
As I sat there I noticed others doing what I had done; walking upon the beach, going to the water, then retreating to the dune and sitting in anticipation. Some had music; you know, that weird "New Age" stuff that was popular then, playing on their cutting edge CD players. It seemed to fit my mood. Then more showed up, and more; my solitude was being invaded and not being from there thought maybe this is just how it is on Southbeach every morning. It got crowded, for a beach.
Just as the sun rose I found myself in a circle of folk hand in hand, and we were singing in Spanish (I don't speak Spanish). I felt strangely comforable despite these circumstances, and though not understanding all that was going on then, learned the meaning of what I had witnessed some time afterward.
I have so many crazy people stories to tell, just not too many crazy neighbor stories, so that one was lame lol
I have another idea too, anyone have a request, for a video that I could go and film? Such as, the local area, x-treme atv, off the wall, exploding snowmen (oh wait I did that),......any idea's....anyone...no sven, I'm not getting hurt on tape...on purpose anyway!
I think my love for video making and pyromania has transferred to at least one of my son's, here's a spoof music video he made with his bud's (he's the "base" player/coon skin hat guy)
It is quite terrifying that the position of Most Powerful Man/woman in the World will once again be filled by a rich, vacuous, rapacious human being voted for by a self-interested, inward-looking electorate fed 24 hour propaganda by most of the media.
I have a face like an arse, but these things I hold to be self-evident truths.
Well you are correct of course, but the real problem with the electorate is the same as the reason that only the rich can be president.
Everyone is working so hard they don't really have time to get involved, and the reason they are working so hard is that the rich control the government.
Romney has so much money he is filled with elitist arrogance just like GWB. In the debate he behaved like a king having to feed the peasants. It's the same way he was when he was Governor on Massachusetts.
pod is right, most of these people dont understand or are unwilling to face the harsh economic realities for instance one aspect national debt =~$8trillion accumulated yearly interest ~$400billion note: the total amount of $ in circulatiom is less than $800billion dollars half of our country's money to just service the debt...with nothing to show for it
But you have a total national product of >13T$/a, so national debt would theoretically not be such a big problem, it is still significantly below the annual national product. The problem is a trade deficit of >750B$/a, so that means you continue to lose money at a high rate.
actually it is a big problem The National Debt is a Political Problem Why Does it Go Up Under Recent Republicans? The first year, under Reagan, it was an accident, but it soon became a plan. That's why it has gone on for 16 years under Republicans. The national debt is aimed at Social Security, and if left unchecked it will help kill it. So far the federal deficit has borrowed more than $1.6 trillion from the Social Security Trust Fund, and Republicans are warning that it's going to be hard or impossible to pay it back.
Why? Because, with the national debt high and rising, repaying the debt to Social Security (and the workers and businesses who put their money into it) would require unacceptable borrowing from private markets or impossibly large cuts in other government programs.
If we were not running a deficit, as we were not when Bush came to office, there would be no problem with selling T-bonds to raise he money to repay social security, just as we sell them now to finance the deficit.
Another reason for the rising debt: Its main cause is tax cuts for the rich. The super-rich families that fund the think tanks behind this effort get richer while killing Social Security. National Debt under Clinton Clinton stopped the bleeding in just three years and then dropped the debt from 67% to 57% in his last five years. Bush wasted no time in reversing this progress and is now forecasting that he will achieve the highest ratio of debt to GDP in 50 years.
Point taken.
The other worrying thing is that British politics seems to be heading down the same route as those in the U.S. There is hardly a cigarette paper's width between the philosophies of the main parties. Choice is so limited that voter apathy is recahing crisis levels.
Hi merkin
I don't have any more weird neighbor stories, just the one I posted before. But I do have a funny neighbor story. A few years ago, I lived next to a very elderly lady. I watched out for her, as much as I could. One day, I saw a skunk outside her house, looking and acting a little weird. I called her up to tell her to stay inside, there was a skunk (it was mid day, strange to see a skunk out and about at all) wandering around her yard, and best she stayed away from it. She proceeded to tell me that she had already seen the skunk, and was boiling some water right then, so she could throw it on him and scare him away. I was like, Um, Mary, that probably isn't a good idea. She asked me why, and I told her that if she was close enough to a skunk to throw hot water on him, then she was close enough to get sprayed, or even worse, attacked, since he was acting weird anyway. She seemed surprised to hear it, and I was surprised I had to tell her. I wondered how she had even gotten to be elderly, using logic like that. I had to use persuasion, charm, and practicality to talk her out of it. She was quite certain it was a good idea. She finally agreed not to do it. Whew! Close one. Man, always gotta be lookin out for people!
bugsy..."will, you be, my neigh-bor?" I have a cardigan, put on "inside shoes" when I come in, and perform toward a mirror I imagine children see me through. Oh, and in my world there is a "choo-choo", and a mouse that rules!
But just thought I'd toss in something here real quick, seeing as how it actually has a bearing on this video clip! LOL!
To all of my Yank friends: do any of you remember (or have heard of) George McGovern? Well, here's something he wrote that seems kind of.....prescient:
Good article, and a good idea, but as he said its not going to happen. Why would all of the wealthy war profiteers (congress) want to cut their future profits. No republican will join for another action against "the party" and the rest have their own political agendas tied to the political quagmire.
I was coming of political awareness when Nixon ran for his second term. "Why pull out in the middle of a good screw? Nixon and Agnew in '72" Now to your question, podman, as Ike was leaving office in '61 he exposed the driving force of this nation that pervades today's "good" decisions, labeled the "MIC".
merkin - Yes many politicos quote Ike and and use his warnings (now truths) as trivial tools to fool the electorate like: "I quote this man to prove that I am not a part of the problem. You can trust me!"
Of course it is a lie to cover greater lies. It would seem that some portion of the public is catching on that the same political genetics breeds the same political problems. Hence the rise of the newbies, and the slow sinking of the entwined rot. Which is why I cannot vote for Hillary or McCain.
Tell me this, for no particular reason.
Is Donald Rumsfeld a homosexual? His demeanour certainly displays a number of hints that he may be a frequenter of Bournville Boulevard.
But i have true affection for the likes of Randlflagg, billboat, pod, mitercut, mako (gone missing) of course canuck the man, chaz, adolf, rizamoon, freetobe, mitercut

Hi Skid!
It's always nice to be included. I was like, where's me, where's me?? Then, there I was. I feel the same, which is why I couldn't stay away long when I got some little bug up my ass. I'm such a pansy.
It does seem to take some time to get a feel for everyone, but it comes through after a while. Most everybody here is intelligent, VERY humorous, sometimes very caring toward each other, most like to bust ass a little which is fun too! I probably spend too much time here, but I'm genuinely interested in what everyone has to say. I've personally never seen, or been a part of, anything like it.
hey skid...late to reply, but...hope 2008 for you is great, as for all the vested Glumbertarians.
"Talk" to you again soon..........
arse....really like your insights...not so much your editorials...but will continue to read them with interest, since your view may reflect the perspective shared by so many of our European friends.
I think the folks working their butts off in mid america would appreciate a positive comment or two from the other side of the pond. I have had the uncommon privelege of hearing from western Europeans their views; remarkably similar to US thoughts....we are not much different at all, and envy each other's strengths. Love it. How wonderfully similar and synergestically impressive, IMHO. How that gets used it the major issue. Governments tend to get in the way.

Adolf, are condor droppings considered to be offerings of affection in your neck of the woods? Or is she angry?
Do armadillo artifacts hold any magical charms to eliminate shoulder pain? If so, I would be very grateful. Although, I'm sure I will soon stop complaining about it, since it is improving.
It's always nice to hear from you, and my terrors of the web were temporary, and silly. You, of course, were not one of them at all.
