This guy is great hilarious and talks truth he mentions canadas health care well i just got 2 take advantage of that walked into dentist with tooth ache got xrays check up FREE then a script for ammoxicillan and tyenol 3s all for the expensive price FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Its not oppressive income tax. If you call oppressive taxing the rich more because they can afford it, then yeah, that's true. But that's not exactly the definition of oppressive. I'd say oppressive is taxing the poor more than the rich...and in Canada's case....no. It's anything BUT oppressive.
You call oppressive taxes which grants the individual to the RIGHT to a healthy life? I think not.
Out of all of the free western democracies, the United States is the ONLY one to not have health care. Something, somewhere, went terribly wrong.
But it's MY money the government is taking from me. And then spending MY money on things I do not want or need. I call that oppressive. And I'm not rich.
The government wastes MY money.
Here is a fact: You are more likely to survive cancer in the USA (with no NHS) than you are in the UK or Canada (two countries with NHS).
The government is wasting MY money.
Here in the UK our government has spent literally billions of pounds (from our taxes) on the NHS over the last ten years. Billions and billions of pounds. And yet, nothing has improved. The waiting lists are still as long, we still die from preventable causes earlier than Americans and other countries, the long promised national computer system to run this abortion we call the NHS is still in mothballs (cos it don't work), geriatric care is a disgrace, hospitals are dirty and we have the highest rates of MRSA in the OECD.
The government has wasted MY money.
Governments don't know how to spend money efficiently. Governments are run by politicians and civil servants who know NOTHING about how enterprises should be run. Governments are crap at managing anything and should not be trusted with any project costing more than a million pounds.
manolo, there is a difference between doing it right, wrong, inefficient etc.
The German NHS is inefficient (read: Too expensive) but it works. Though in the last years the government has started to put more and more clinics into private hands. This does not reduce the cost but it reduces the quality of service.
An optimal NHS would give anyone the best possible treatment to return the person to work as soon as possible to keep taxes and social security payments flowing. But it would give the same treatment to anyone not employed (for whatever reason). For the country in overall this is the best and most efficient option, a healthy population does produce and consume more
Though by privatizing the NHS you get the result that treatment becomes a matter of isolated commercial intrest, the interest of the individual or whole nation becomes secondary at best.
The thing we have going on here in Germany is that a growing part of the NHS spendings goes into bureaucracy. It has passed 30% of the whole system cost officially, but more likely it is even higher.
Yeah cause thats what makes him so hilarious. Just his voice and his emphasis is the art of his genius standup routine.
WHY OH WHY did I miss an opportunity to see LEWIS BLACK AND Dave Chappelle at my college 4 years ago? I was dumb. Very dumb, and I'm kicking myself for it.
This is a very insightful man.
He knows what the rest of the world knows, but seldom says.
That is - America is a very young country and behaves like a teenager (in historical terms). There is much to admire, but it is still a growing-up process.
No one wants to sue until your kid dies having his wisdom teeth out. Increase the med standards make sense, but having no recourse when they fuckup isn't, I think the old USSR used the no sue standard.
Until something happens to you or your family or you're an MD everyone jumps on the malpractice bandwagon.
No milk is not good! It's cow food.
The Canadian health care system is not perfect; The U.K. health care system is not perfect; the German health care system is not perfect; the Australian health care system is not perfect; the French health care system is not perfect. As a matter of fact....NONE of the other universal health care systems in the OTHER western industrialized nations are perfect, and there's NO doubt, that the citizenry of those nations probably have many complaints about their respective systems........
BUT.......
Ask any one of those citizens in those countries if they would trade in their imperfect systems---AS THEY ARE---for the U.S. health care model, AS IT IS. Care to guess as to what their answer would be? Hint: It's gonna be either a "yes"...or a "no". (weinerdog...don't you get on my fuckin' case about this! This is pertinent to the discussion at-hand, and what was said in this video! LOL!)
manolo....You're asleep at the fuckin' switch. The issue is NOT the fundamental concept of universal health care itself...rather, it's a question of health care being a right.... or a privilidege. You don't mind a socialized police force...or a socialized fire department....nope. THOSE are okay. But a "socialized" heath care system? GASP! Oh no! Gimme a fuckin' break. If such a system isn't being properly administered (financially) , then it's the responsiblity persons like YOU to voice your opinion, and get it STRAIGHTENED OUT, instead of sitting there, pissing and moaning about it. The concept of such a system is sound....it's the ADMINISTRATION of it...that needs fine-tuning. Period. So stop whining, at look at the Big Picture.
Fuck sakes.
Having said all of that....Lewis Black is hilarious.
"Fire department" "My house is buring!" "OK, please give me your address and credit card number" "I don't have a credit card" "Sorry Sir, if you want to pay cash I can not schedule you until next Thursday"
And oh ya....here's some Brain Food for ya, Mr. manolo asleep-at-the-switch:
Maybe if your successive governments had STOPPED trying to UNDERFUND the N.H.S. for the last 10 years or so, they wouldn't have the problems they got now......right? RIGHT??:
(Note: the others posters on this site are....how shall I put this?.....even a little too far "left" for MY tastes....but still provoke a reaction, nonetheless).
Hmmm, I guess the img src coding does not work. Oh well.
Face it folks, you get what you pay for in most circumstances. If you want good medical care go where it is and be willing to pay for it. If you can't afford it than the next best option is to do everything you can to not get sick and take exceptional care of your health.
When you think about it, those dollar menu items are costing you a hell of a lot more than you think.
I think you may have just come up with McDonalds next advertising campaign....."Try our dollar menu and earn valuable Cardiopoints, redeemable on your next cardiac incident"
Just saw a good movie on movieforumz that i think shows lots of problems with U.S HEALTHCARE SYSTEM movies called AWAKE sorry dont have any links for ya just go to www.movieforumz.com
