Because right-wingers are supposedly better able to rationalize social and economic inequalities, while left-wingers lack the philosophical framework to view such disparities positively.
Regardless of marital status, income or church attendance, right-wing individuals reported greater life satisfaction and well-being than left-wingers, the new study found. Conservatives also scored highest on measures of rationalization, which gauge a person's tendency to justify, or explain away, inequalities.

But the truth is rich people are happier than poor folk and rich countries happier than poor countries. When counrtries get richer they get happier . Money provides freedom and the best thing power. Generosity is a power of having money giving it to the needy enhances the happiness.So with money comes happy ness. And that is not such a bad thing .
Maybe it's the other way around....maybe people who look for the positives in life, however meager they may be for some, tend to be happier than those who focus on the negatives (things can ALWAYS be better, MY cut of the pie is smaller than it should be, etc.). So, actually, it's the mindset that is notable, not the label that is applied to it...which is always applied by those of differing mindsets.
I hate the labels:
liberal...conservative...democrat...republican...black...white...hispanic...afro...asian...whatever. Once labelled, you lose your personal identity, you lose the ability to think for yourself, or at least appear that way to others. It is popular to label people....that way, the aggressor paints a generic target on his victim, making him vulnerable to generic criticisms and enabling the critic to discount that person's views and opinions. And that's "talk radio" these days, as well as much of we see on TV.
I have always voted for the "person" and not the "party"....yet, pickings have been terribly slim over the last thirty years.
Where is Colin Powell, and why can't he run with Condoleeza as a VP candidate? Why is John McCain the only person in the race who we know speaks his mind plainly, never mind his politics?
Good grief, folks, it's another "least worse" situation. I am getting very tired of this process that keeps worthy candidates from becoming actual candidates, whether because of media feastings on their youthful indiscretions (or not so youthful), or lack of funds, or fear of attacks on their reputations, or all that sells TV time and newspapers....
...my thought is that anyone assertive and ambitious enough to achieve leadership, and succeed in a commanding role in their mature lives...well, that person is likely to have sown earlier seeds with willing partners, or chanced fate in embarassing ways....things the vetting process, and the media absolutely and unmercifully will parade before their respective audiences. This risk is what belays the more capable from entering the world stage...and we, as a republic, suffer the consequences....mediocre candidates with mediocre records, and mediocre abilities.
Ah....re: the "money buys happiness" idea - it doesn't, but poverty does "buy" unhappiness. They are, clearly, not mutually exclusive. Don't blame the rich for the problems of the poor...envy them, maybe, but don't blame them. I believe talent, energy (ambition under control), time, and place.....and chance...mix to produce one's place in life. Some are lucky, others are not, many fall in between. Taking from those who "have" by those who "have not", out of a distorted sense of justice, is criminal. Giving by those who "have" to those who "have not" is enormously different and certainly commendable, though largely unappreciated by those not directly benefitted.

I have now used up my posting space for the last week and probably next week too....sorry to blather so. But what the hell.....maybe someone else feels similarly....? (One reservation...do NOT think I am a spokeperson for the well-off...if I recall, Jesus said "the poor will always be with us"...I don't think he meant it as a defense of the rich...just reality in the world, as regretable as it might be.)
If a conservative thinker came to the ice floes and tried to indoctrinate my pup, I wouls first try to reason with him. But if this failed, I would roll on him with my great blubbering mass time and time again. If he still disagreed with the fundamentals of liberal social democracy, I would have no choice but to flatten him into the snow until he gasped his last evil breath.
I would take no pleasure in this, but the world would be a better place.
