I wanna see on of you guys try it. even with logic pro, genesis, ableton, whatever you may chose and come up with something as close to being as half as good. I may be used to it, but I will never discredit the talent it takes.
The whole point of live DJing is because it's live. Yeah you could take your sweet time putting together some samples, but that's not live, it doesn't require the same amount of skill that live DJing requires.
The difference between these people, and "actual" musicians is that "actual" musicians at least have to learn the skill of playing their instrument (usually multiple instruments), and then learn the skill of crafting pleasing melodies.
These people use synthesizers, and computers, press a couple buttons, and short-cut half the skill out of a performance, hence why its only half as impressive as a violin, or piano virtuoso.
I'm a digital photographer, and I can tell you the skill (and initial investment in time) required the be a competent digital photographer is dramatically less then the skill (and initial investment in time) required the be a competent analog photographer.
Its not even close.
Its dramatically easier to become a proficient digital photog, then it is to have mastered photography entirely on film.
Same thing here.
*ANY*one can be taught to do this in a fraction of the time it would take to learn *ANY* physical musical instrument.
What's the difference. Just because it was harder to do in the past doesn't mean that it's worse now. If you took the exact same picture using an analog camera as with a digital camera, it's still the same picture and should have no effect on how good the picture is. It's the same with music. Just because people make the music differently doesn't necessarily mean that it is worse music, it's just different.
So it's bad that "these people use synthesizers and computers" to create music? Damn! That's a crotchety argument going back at least 4 decades to the days of Robert Moog.
This is pretty cool, and I'm well over 40 years old. I also appreciate the need for superb timing for this to be carried out well, so, yes, it is talent and, yes, it does require skill and practice.
I never once gave my opinion about the quality of the music being played.
I simply said that it isn't as impressive to create music (or photographs) using methods that can be learned over a long weekend, compared to the effort that one puts into mastering the guitar, or piano.
I'm a digital photographer (as I clearly stated in my initial post), and I adore the digital music scene (although I've not yet gotten my feet wet in the medium first hand), but while it might be just as aurally pleasing to hear this as Beethoven (to some), and while I may be able to take a trip to Yellowstone, and re-capture Ansel Adams greatest images easily with todays modern technology, neither are nearly as impressive as hearing (or seeing) the product of a master, who'd dedicated his life to his craft.
I personally consider a lifetimes worth of commitment in becoming a virtuoso someone more impressive then the skills shown within the video in question, which clearly can be mastered within a short number of years (of which even that number I feel is greatly giving the benefit of the doubt... this likely could be mastered in months of dedicated practice).
To sum up for "Preacher311", who apparently falls asleep easily:
When you say ANALOG I assume you are referring to FILM?
I have to disagree with you on the difference between DIGITAL and FILM, saying that the FILM photographer had to know more about the craft than the digital. With the exception of having to know about FILM and possibly how to develop your own images a good digital photography still has to be knowledgeable of exposure, F stop settings, shutter speed. I believe that DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY has made the learning curve about photography less steep. People are learning more and more how to take a decent picture these days. Go to FLICKR.COM and look at what newbies are doing these days. Some of their work is amazing actually.
Muacra: Please read whats written, before making assumptions.
The entire point made was that it IS EASIER to take good pictures using current technology.
I'm a digital photographer. I'm not making excuses, or insulting anyone. But when I take pictures, the work I do is dramatically easier then a photographer 40 years prior to my work.
That makes it less impressive.
If you can't understand the difference between digital, and analog, you don't belong in this discussion.
im beginning to regret the addition of the comments section on glumbert. another example of humanity disappointing me. this music is great, method be damned. the result is awesome.
As both a dj AND an analog photographer I can say that hossrex is a tool. You have no idea how fucking hard it is to do what they are doing. If I could crab like that cat playing the high melody at the 3.15 mark I'd be a damn happy man. To keep all that going for over 6 minutes, much less to compose it to begin with, is a feat.
There are no synthesizers, no computers...the music on the records and they are manipulating it to make the song. Saying what you did is like saying "pianists are so lame..you just push a key and it plays the music. A monkey can do that."
Taking the large, inedible part towards the top in your fingers, and the main body of the fruit in your inverse hand, break the seal of the hard yellow skin, and pull down, along the back of the banana. Repeating this process several times, until the skin of the yellow musa is segmented into roughly equal portions, hanging uselessly from mid section of the banana. You're now free to bring this newly exposed white, fleshy substance towards your oral orifice. Using a continued upward thrusting motion, propel the white fleshy part inwards, while avoiding the yellow skin, and with an upwards motion from your bottom
incisors, further separate this section of the banana from the bulk.
Repeating this upward oral motion, shunt the banana into the rear of your mouth, and now operating mainly with the molars, continue the mastication process. You may now decide to continue the process of ingesting this fruit, and if so, return to, and repeat all steps following the removal of the inedible yellow skin. If you choose to desist the ingesting of the banana, neatly fold the skin back over the top, and either find the waste receptacle, or refrigeration unit of your choice."
Actually it was cool, but I'd have cut the repeated sections to bring in more 'bits' and give it some more meaningfull melody.
OK, maybe my opinion was not very technical, but I do all kinds of 'techno' music and it's right down my alley.... minus the thing-a-ma-jig they were spinning.
Watz dat?
